White House Correspondent
It's a Come to POTUS moment at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. on Tuesday, July 27: The president will play host to a bipartisan group of congressfolk, make a statement to the press mid-day, then sit down for lunch with (undisclosed) House members. In the evening, he'll swing over to the tony Mandarin Oriental Hotel for a Democratic National Committee fundraising event. Here's what's on deck:
9:30 a.m. -- The president receives the Presidential Daily Briefing in the Oval Office.
10:00 a.m. -- Receives the Economic Daily Briefing in the Oval Office.
11:00 a.m. -- Meets with bipartisan members of Congress in the Cabinet Room. Expected attendees: Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.), Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio), and Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.). Unclear whether there will be mention of
ants or nuclear weapons.
12:00 p.m. -- Obama delivers a statement to the press in the Rose Garden.
12:20 p.m. -- Lunch with House members in the Roosevelt Room (depending on who's in attendance, the safe money is on something everyone can agree on: chicken breasts.)
1:30 p.m. -- Press briefing by Press Secretary Robert Gibbs.
3:05 p.m. -- President congratulates the Warner Robins Softball World Series Champions in the East Room.
4:00 p.m. -- Meets with Secretary of the Treasury Tim Geithner in the Oval Office.
4:30 p.m. -- Meets with Secretary of Defense Robert Gates in the Oval Office (expect discussion of the
Wikileaks fallout).
