Columnist
Dave Weigel, the blogger who
resigned from The Washington Post after derogatory comments he made about conservatives on the Journolist list-serv were revealed, has landed a new gig.
Interestingly,
Weigel is moving to Slate, owned by The Washington Post company.
The conservative Web site
Newsbusters was critical of the move, writing:
"The news that Weigel has been hired by a Post-owned publication suggests that his resignation was just a move to shield him -- and possibly the Post -- while the controversy blew over."
It is worth noting that Weigel also has recently
come under attack from anti-war activists for
comments he made on Twitter such as,
"The WikiLeaks Afghan dump is depressing. Very tired of our effort there being subjected to this kind of crap."
For that, some anti-war liberals are
incredulous.
Weigel, of course, can take comfort that angering both the left and the right equates to a good day's work for a journalist.
The truth is that Weigel is a good, if iconoclastic, blogger. Even as he was being forced out of the Post, many conservatives I spoke with believed
Weigel is a good reporter, but that he was ill-suited to cover the conservative movement.
It looks like he has landed on his feet. May he find success in his new endeavor.
Our New Approach to Comments
In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers –
a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around.
