Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston Engagement: It's Off Again. Maybe

Oh no! Could it be? The Bristol Palin-Levi Johnston engagement is off again?

So reports E! Online in the ongoing saga of the two American kids we hoped would end up like Jack and Diane but seem determined to play out their own version of "The Not-so Secret Lives of American Teenagers."

Here's a quick recap of the latest drama, and possible reasons for the reported breakup:

Did Levi get an ex-girlfriend pregnant, which is what the National Enquirer has reported? No -- according to US magazine, where the pair announced their engagement last month, and Levi's sister Mercede.

Did the pair have a falling out over a proposed reality show based on their reunion? It's unclear, though we know the couple's pitch for such a show appeared to fall flat.

Is comedian Kathy Griffin somehow involved? She sure seemed bummed when she learned about Levi returning to his ex. Or was that a big publicity stunt?

Could it be all the to-do about Chelsea's big event last weekend? Maybe Bristol figured she couldn't compete with the Vera Wang dress, the celebs and the front page of the New York Times. Certainly father Todd doesn't need to lose 20 pounds to walk her down the aisle. Maybe she doesn't think the Alaska landscape compares as favorably as New York? Those pix of Chelsea certainly were lovely.

Finally, what about Briana Plum? She's another former girlfriend of Levi. E! is reporting that Plum said some things in an interview that Bristol didn't like -- and then there was that Facebook picture of Levi and Briana and then, well, let's call the whole thing off.

For now.

Surely we can all stay tuned to the tabs and the celeb zines for the next new development in the Bristol-Levi miniseries.

Meanwhile, guess this means putative mother of the bride and former GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, who reportedly didn't approve of the engagement -- is off the hook. She doesn't have to decide whether to avoid the wedding or grit her teeth and bear it. She may be the winner here.

For now.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Why does the media need to keep up on anything to do with the Palin clan. Let them live in peace, far, far away. The whole family is a walking contradiction.

I am not a fan of Mrs. Palin. I think she is a thin skinned and uninformed person who prides herself in remaining uninformed. I do, however, feel for Bristol Palin. Living in the fishbowl is difficult for anyone and to be in that fishbowl as a single Mom has to be crushing. I think Levi acted like a jerk. Whatever issues he has wih Mrs. Palin he should have respected the fact that she is his son's Grandmother. Bristol has her entire life ahead of her and she seems to be a great Mom so I wish her luck in whatever she decdes to do and hope that despite her Mother's efforts, she keeps her son out of the fishbowl.

I may not agree with Pres. Obama's policies, but his family has class. The Clintons, Palins, Gores....the list goes on and on...lots of money, no class.

More Palin bashing. Are the Libs upset because Bristol's baby has a successful family and isn't going to be dependent on welfare?

According to the conservative's official handbook entitled "How to run everyone elses life to my expectations", having a child out of wedlock is definately a Liberal trait. Doesn't that make the Palins Liberal Democrats in disguise? If so, then I am sure we will soon see them on welfare!

Bristol, dont be fooled, you cant change a leper of his spots, let this guy go, you deserve better. Dont listen to all the negative comments either. Give God a chance to perfect your situation and HE will give you a better life than you can imagine.

Bristol cound do a lot better than this guy!!! He has caused her family much grief!!! She needs to get a job, raise her child and get an education as well, this is all plenty for her to do!!! Levi needs to get a job and help Bristol raise the child(child support). Perhaps they need to stop trying for easy money and work!!!
