George W. Bush's first television interview since leaving the White House more than a year and a half ago will be with NBC's Matt Lauer -- one week after the midterm elections.

The sit-down will air in prime time as a "Matt Lauer Reports" special on Monday, Nov. 8, USA Today reported. Not coincidentally, Bush's memoir, "Decision Points," will be released the following day.

"President Bush will talk to Lauer about the details of his upcoming book . . . and he will discuss the defining decisions he has made in his personal and political life," NBC News said in a statement.

On Nov. 10, Bush will also join Lauer live on "Today," the NBC show that features the former president's daughter, Jenna Bush Hager, as a contributor.

Bush has kept a low profile since leaving office in January 2009. In a video posted to his Facebook page earlier this summer, he said he was keeping busy working on his memoirs and staying involved in a number of charity and public policy initiatives. Most recently Bush teamed up with another former president, Bill Clinton, to raise money for earthquake relief in Haiti.

He also said he was focused on the completion of his presidential library and museum in Dallas, which will also house the George W. Bush Institute.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.

Now, there is a show I will nevr watch. I had enough of 8 years of one of the greatest liars this country has ever had, beginning with his WMD lies to get us into the Iraq war. Then he paraded the other liars, Rumsfeld, Cheney, Powell to back up all his nonsense. I am sure that most of the interview will focus on why he was rigt about Iraq, that the weapons were there, we just never found them
All those lies, and what did it get us---- a TRILLION dollars added to our deficit, and the loss and maiming of thousands of our young soldiers, not to mention the complete destruction of Iraq, and the slaughter of T thousands of innocent Iraqis, including men, women and CHILDREN
After that, I am sure he will shoulder no blame for the worst financial meltdown our nation has seen since the Great Depression, and tell us all the great things his administration accomplished. LIKE WHAT?

Matt Lauer..........congratulations. GWB, I will be one of the first in line to buy your book, and will certainly watch the NBC interview (a news program I have not watched for at least 10-15 years). They went a little crazy after becoming part of the GE holdings.

GWB, as have all Presidents before him (other than Carter), has shown the class and discipline to not comment on the current President and his/her (someday) agenda. It seems only Carter and Obama lack the respect, integrity, and strength of character, to fight their own battles without pointing fingers. What a shame. A leader sets the example. Perhaps that is why there is rampant divisivness within the American social and political structure.

A leader shows sets the example? I hope you are not talking about the "leadership" shown by George W. Bush, during those dismal 8 years for America. I do not need to go into all the details of his failed leadership, from the Iraq war, all based on lies, to the dismantling of our economic system so that the rich could prosper
Heaven help us if we get another 8 years of that kind of leadership---the next tie, it will not be a Great Recession, but a Great DEPRESSION
