'Obama Is a Job Killer,' Newt Gingrich Tells College Students

Newt Gingrich, former speaker of the House and once again a leading Republican voice, passionately told students at the National Conservative Student Conference that during the midterm elections they could choose between the Left -- "the job killers" -- or the Right -- "the job creators." It was classic Gingrich.

"Obama, Speaker (Nancy) Pelosi and Sen. (Harry) Reid represent a philosophy that kills jobs. They believe in trial lawyers, rules and regulations and unions," he said during a speech Tuesday at the conference at George Washington University in D.C., organized by Young America's Foundation.

Gingrich's speech was a job evaluation for President Barack Obama. The president, by Gingrich's measure, has come up lacking. Gingrich connected health care reform, energy reform, the lack of jobs, the rise of radical Islamists and recent national security threats to the future of young Americans, pointing to Republicans as the choice for change.

The former speaker implored students to participate in the fall elections.

"Do we want an America that relies on independent freedoms, local entrepreneurs and local communities? I would urge every one of you to get actively involved. Who wins this fall makes a bigger difference than in any American election than I can remember," Gingrich said.

To bolster his job-killer argument, Gingrich talked about the Obama administration's moratorium on off-shore drilling that he said "led to a loss of 80,000 jobs in Louisiana."

To argue that the administration has been weak tackling national security issues, he spoke of the "underwear bomber" on the flight to Detroit last Christmas and the attempted bombing in Times Square earlier this year. "The first time when they knew there was a bomb on that airplane was when it failed to go off," he added.

Gingrich told the students about his recent trip to New York to protest the proposed building of the mosque near Ground Zero. Gingrich said he believed that America must not tolerate radical Islamists. "It (the Obama administration) won't use the word 'jihad' and thinks it's going to win this war," he said.

After the speech, Gingrich chatted with students and signed copies of his recent book, "To Save America – Stopping Obama's Secular-Socialist Machine."

Standing among the first few in line was Sarah Richard from Clark University in Massachusetts. "He made a lot of great points on national security. Although you may not take such a strong stance as him, he made relevant points."

Timothy Duff, a sophomore at University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, said Gingrich's speech had inspired him to go back to his campus and talk to his friends about being more involved in the elections. "Intrusion by the government has gotten too much. We need conservative leaders in Congress, "Duff said.

During the question session, Gingrich was asked repeatedly if he would run in the upcoming 2012 presidential race.

Gingrich told students he wouldn't rule out the Republican Party's attempt to come up with a second Contract of America. About running for president he said, "I can't jump that far ahead."

Jordan Richardson, a senior at Marshall University, said he thinks Gingrich has a chance at the presidency in 2012. "He has good ideas. But I like Mitt Romney better," he said.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Poor Gingrich-he dumped his wife for an office broad. Gingrich is just like other well to do republicans. Republicans do not care if you're denied prescription drugs and die; they do not care if our highways; roads and streets are rocky; they do not care if our public schools and universities do not have good teachers and in good buildings-they send their children to private school and to England; they do not care if you don't have a job- they are shipping jobs abroad; they laugh at you because you're jobless; they hate you because you're on welfare; they borrow your money from your local banks to ship manufacturing jobs abroad. We have to stop them because what they are doing is threat to our national security. We cannot continue this trend. Please write to President Obama to levy heavy tariffs for imported goods that can be manufactured here.

No, the problem is people buying what they buy. I've never owned a foreign car ! When I buy tires I have to see the made in usa in small letters on the sidewall - mostly they're not the cheapest. I bought Zenith TV's for years-they were the last to be made in states. So..... what are you buying? Look at all your labels, even in grocery stores ! And if you really want change, ask those patriotic union longshoremen to stop unloading the freighters from foreign countries at our ports !!

Globalization has required us to reduce taxes on businesses who will ship their jobs overseas in search of lower taxes and lower labor costs, continuing the high unemployment rate in this country. This will reduce tax income to the government which will continue to reduce government social programs for the least among our citizens. This scenario projects our country further to a plutocracy and a greater income divide where we have a small minority of people with wealth and vast numbers of poor.

This story of Gingrich's speech is good and right to the point. It is true the agenda this administration has been pushing will not create jobs or help our failing economy. With a little common sense taking each bill that has been shoved through congress and looking at it from an employers view to how it will effect his business and from a personal view how it will effect and cost you and your family and you can see why people are not spending money and you can see if you were a business owner why you are not hiring.Take the stimulus bill that was pasted in Feb.2009. If you read the article on how money from that bill was spent of pet pork projects instead of economic growth. Here is the main question. How much of that stimulus package 875 billion was distributed to main street america where the economy is created? They are considering another bill that will cost 100 billion to create 1 million jobs that works out to 100,000 per job. It would be easier to go out in areas of high unemployment and find 2,225.000 people and hand them each 40,000 for a one year taxable income. This would put money on the street it would also take those 2,225,000 people off unemployment. Then who knows how many more jobs could be created by these people spending that money!
