Come again? Nevada Republican Senate candidate Sharron Angle, the Tea Party conservative who is challenging Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, says the media should "ask the questions we want to answer, so that they report the news the way we want it to be reported."

That novel take on the responsibilities of the free press even got the attention of the conservative National Review, which posted Angle's comments from a Fox News interview on its website. The headline: "Did She Just Say That Out Loud?"
Nevada Senate Republican candidate Sharron Angle
"We needed the press to be our friend," Angle tells Fox's Carl Cameron on Monday. "Hold on a second, to be your friend?" a surprised Cameron asks. Angle says, "Well truly." Cameron: "That sounds naive."

Angle goes on: "Well, no. We want them to ask the questions we want to answer so that they report the news the way we want it to be reported." She adds that she wants to mention her website, Sharron.Angle.com, in such situations so potential supporters can contribute to her cause. Cameron, the bemused interviewer, can only smile.

FoxNation.com ran the clip with the headline: "Sharron Angle too Honest in Latest Interview."

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.

No, the American people will ask the questions that we want and demand to have answered. What you, the elected, need to do is what we the people tell you to do. You do work for us, by the way.

Angle must have been asked something -- which was not reported -- to which she made the comment. She might have been asked something like "If you had your choice of news reportijng, what would yuou like most?" Her answer would not have ben so far fetched in that case.

I think she is half right and probably misspoke. She probably did mean "ask the questions the voters want answered by all candidates" and quit dirt digging against the candidate you dislike ... usually the conservative. Their job is to report the news, not promote their own personal agenda. I don't want to hear about their personal grievances from the reporter, I want to know about what the candidate will be doing if they are elected. Now that said, if they want to do their own reporting away from the press room, and come up with dirt on whatever candidate, so be it. But at a press conference it is about the candidates and where they stand on the issues, or whatever the press conference was called for.

I think that Ms. Angle is saying that the reporters should ask the questions that the mainstream voters want answered and not the "gotcha" or trick type questions that reporters are mostly asking. As for the ricicule she is taking from her views about Social Security it should be told that state and local government retirement plans are not connected to SS in any way and unlike Social Security if you do not pay into that plan you cannot benefit from it.

No, she is simply unqualified and the tea party made a huge mistake backing her. Almost anyone else would have beat Harry Ried, but now it goes back to he dems.

Please don't ask my candidates the hard questions, but when it comes to your candidate please do. The media will survive whether a Democrat or a Republican wins; they still will have their power by the mere fact they contribute to these people who are running for office. The question you need to ask, are you fair and balanced? Do you critically think and can make a decision based on facts, just like you would write a paper in a critical freshmen English class, compare and contrast. If you listen to one side you don't have the whole story.

While my conservative nature would like nothing better then to see Ole' Harry take a hike, someone needs to get with this woman and explain to her how to win votes! It would be nice if the media was even remotely fair...wake up Sharron and quit making a fool of yourself if you want the voters of NV to take you seriously!

I have a "friendly" question for Ms. Angle...actually several.

Why does Ms. Angle want to get rid of Social Security and Medicare? How would those people pay for their medical care? Since she opposes the new health care law, would citizens In Nevada simply send their medical bills to Sharron Angle for payment? Also, last question for this post: Does Ms. Angle plan on running ANY campaign ads that FULLY EXPLAIN her specific platform? All I have seen so far....are 100% ATTACK ADS. Those ads say NOTHING about Ms. Angle, other than she seems not to have a grasp of what she would do if elected.

Memo to Ms. Angle: It is not the job of an independent press to ask "friendly" questions. It it were, we wouldn't need freedom of the press as guaranteed by the First Amendment. (You can find the text of the First Amendment by looking above that of the Second Amendment, which by the way does not include the "remedies" of which you speak.) If you don't have a copy of the Constitution, I would be happy to send you one-or I bet you can one from "the Internet machine."

I think she knows the Constitution. Our press has become a propaganda machine for the Liberal candidates, so why not ask them to do their job and not show who they really are: Liberal water carriers......

What liberal press?? I listen to TV and its all fluff. NPR always has a conservative at the debate on sunday and all the local papers are conservative. To get a remotely balenced opinion page I have to get the Wash Post.
