Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily!A former defense lobbyist was charged Thursday with making hundreds of thousands of dollars in illegal campaign contributions, while his son struck a deal with prosecutors to help build the case against his father, The Washington Post reported.
The charges against Paul Magliocchetti, brought in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Va., also included making false statements to the Federal Election Commission.
PMA Group Inc., the Virginia lobbying firm founded and owned by Magliocchetti, was shut down last year after it was raided by the FBI.
His son, Mark Magliocchetti, pleaded guilty to one count of making illegal campaign donations and agreed to assist in the ongoing investigation of his father. The younger Magliocchetti allegedly made the donations at the request of his father, who later reimbursed him for more than $120,000.
The indictment, unsealed Thursday, does not allege wrongdoing by any elected officials. PMA's connections to lawmakers on the House subcommittee in control of Pentagon spending were probed by ethics investigators and the Congress members were cleared, the Post said.
A major Democratic lobbyist and fund-raiser was arrested Thursday and indicted on charges of making hundreds of thousands of dollars of illegal campaign contributions to members of Congress. How embarrassing for the Dems. They must be getting dried out with the swamp draining. How embarrassing for Mr. Weber and his ommission of the political affilliation. How embarrassing for Pelosi who whitewashed the investigation.
