I've never conceived, so I haven't stood in the shoes of a woman with an unwanted pregnancy. The concept of pregnancy will always be abstract to me. I'm not the least bit religious. While I was relieved to have the option of abortion when I was 19, as I've grown older, I've become more laissez faire. More live-and-let-live, which puts me on both sides of this debate. Mind your own business (pro-choice) and aw, have a heart (pro-life). I used to like the work of director Michael Moore, but his disregard for facts puts him too far over on the propaganda spectrum for my taste. Read author Kurt Loder's piece titled 'Heavily Doctored' on one of Moore's most celebrated films: "Sicko." At some point Moore's films crossed over from journalism into the cheap laugh and the easy sneer. We all know that [Hitler] was a human being. The task was to create a three-dimensional picture of this man. It was to get as close to what this man really was -- and had to be -- to seduce a whole civilized nation into barbarism. To me it's obvious that a demonic creature would never be able to lure a whole people into something evil like that.
I was a young woman when the Court gave women the right to a legal abortion. I thought, that's great no woman should have to bear a child if she was raped or her health was placed in jeapardy. But, recently, I saw the figure that 42 million babies worldwide are aborted each year and I know that they were not all from rape, incest or a woman's ill health. I knew that women didn't want them
for one reason or another, no money, too many kids or just got "caught". What is sad and heartbreaking that these babies did not get a chance at a life like me. That in that number of 42 million the greatest human beings, the greatest scientists, the greatest doctors or whoever, could have been among them.
ok can we keep the comments about the film?
& i saw the film on HBO today. it was really good. i thought it was a little biased towards the side of the abortion clinic (pro-choice, pro-abortion, abortion rights, w/e u want to call it), but overall a very good film. well-directed & produced. could not believe what really goes on at both types of clinics, inside & out.
