Biden Motorcade in Minor Accident: Two Cops Hurt in New York

Be careful out there! Two New York City police officers on motorcycles had a minor accident in Queens while escorting Vice President Joe Biden to Kennedy Airport Thursday.

The vice president's automobile was not hit and the cops were not seriously injured, the Associated Press reports. But it was the fourth minor accident involving a Biden motorcade, and the second Biden incident in New York in less than a year. In November, an NYPD police car driving ahead of Biden had a small collision with another vehicle. And in Albuquerque, N.M., also last November, a sheriff's sergeant was hospitalized after his car collided with another as Biden's motorcade rolled.

November was a particularly bad month. Two Secret Service employees, driving an armored SUV and a limo used to transport Biden, were involved in a fatal accident on Veterans Day when one of the vehicles struck and killed a man in an accident in Prince George's County, Maryland. Biden was not with the Secret Service detail at the time.

During the winter Olympics in Vancouver, B.C., former Olympians Peggy Fleming and Vonetta Flowers were slightly injured when a van they rode in along with the vice president's entourage was rear-ended by another vehicle in the motorcade.

Going back to October 2008, a policeman escorting then vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin hurt his back and leg in a motorcycle collision in St. Louis. Palin was there for her campaign debate with... Joe Biden.

This past Thursday, Biden was in Manhattan to meet with Mayor Michael Bloomberg at Gracie Mansion.
