The questions are why not 6 billion? Will this money be used to actually seal and enforce more border?
August 07 2010 at 12:58 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyGovernment Motors just announced a new 550 million dollar plant in Mexico that will be built with our tax dollars. 6 billion is more in line with whats needed for the border surveillance.
August 07 2010 at 12:08 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyThis is a mere subterfuge to blunt the anger of the people from the Democratic congress and President for their refusal to allow Arizon to enforce the immigrations laws. When you have 20M illegal, undocumented, "guest workers" in the United States and your prisons are filled with these people, it is time to remove their guest status. Enforcement of the Arizon laws cost the federal government nothing. This reminds me of a speach by former President Bush II at his Mexican Wall, giving lip service to stopping illegal immigration as people were seen climbing over the top.

August 07 2010 at 2:35 AM Report abuse Permalink +6 rate up rate down ReplyWhy are drones being used for border patrol? The only reason to use a drone is to keep a live pilot from being shot down. To my knowledge no pilot has ever been shot down patrolling our border with Mexico. Drones still require a pilot in a windowless room instead of in the cockpit so there is no savings there. A plane that flies low and slow like a Cessna outfitted with state of the art surveillance equipment would be more suitable for the mission and would be millions cheaper. What a waste of taxpayer money.
August 06 2010 at 11:57 PM Report abuse Permalink +15 rate up rate down ReplyCould it be that the plan is designed to be the most expensive while being the least effective? I have real doubts about the sincerity of this Administration to secure the border.
August 07 2010 at 12:30 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI am glad to see that the Senate has passed this bill. However, getting it signed by the President is questionable in my opinion. With the current Drug Cartell wars that are going on in Mexico, it is imperative that the border of Arizonia is protected. I realize that California, New Mexico, and Texas need to be protected, but you don't hear California, New Mexico,or Texas complaining about the amount of illegal aliens coming across their borders. Maybe they don't care if illegals cross their borders. Hopefully the next step will be to stop legalizing babies born to illegal aliens who have come into our country illegally.
August 06 2010 at 11:36 PM Report abuse Permalink +19 rate up rate down ReplyThis whole "secure" border dialogue is nothing but a political smokescreen. What does "secure" mean? Only 10 get across? 100? 10,000? Once the election is over, Mcain, and all the others, will revert to the "boo hoo-what can we do". And "how are we supposed to get rid of the 12,000,000 who are already here".
You address the problem the same way it created itself. DEPORT THEM ONE PERSON AT A TIME FOR AS LONG AS IT TAKES. Once the word gets out that there's NO JOBS, NO FREE HEATHCARE, EDUCATION, FOOD STAMPS, SUBSIDIZED HOUSING, ETC - PEOPLE WILL STOP COMING.
We currently allow over 1,000,000 LEGAL immigrants in EVERY YEAR. The process is a PRIVILEGE - NOT A RIGHT TO EVERYONE WHO CAN SNEAK IN!
And as far as this "amnesty" concept for the "open borders" crowd, let me just ask: how do you give "amnesty" to those here using stolen identities? Let me guess - they get a pass and only citizens will be prosecuted for identity theft? Or those who are here - paid in cash and paying NO taxes? Let me guess - they get a pass and only citizens who don't pay taxes go to jail?
I could go on and on but to what end? Those for "open borders" don't want to hear the arguments such as those I just laid out. Either we're a nation of laws - or we're not. And if your first act as a prospective "immigrant" is to break our immigration laws - why bother to obey anything else you decide you don't agree with?
The UNITED STATES needs to stop doing business with Mexico until this illegal mess is stopped. What is the Mexican officals doing to stop it ,nothing. GOD BLESS AMERICA AND HER CITIZENS.

August 06 2010 at 8:55 PM Report abuse Permalink +8 rate up rate down ReplyHOW CAN WE? GM, OF WHOM THE TAXPAYERS OWN 61%, JUST ANNOUNCED A $500 MILLION INVESTMENT IN MEXICO TO IMPROVE THEIR AUTO PLANTS THERE. NOT IN DETROIT, WHERE AMERICAN WORKERS ARE BROKE, OUT OF WORK, AND HUNGARY, BUT IN THE LAND OF OUR "ENEMY", MEXICO. THE VERY COUNTRY THAT IS INVADING THE U.S.A. AND HAS A GOVT. PLAN TO TAKE OVER THE SOUTHWEST AND MAKE IT PART OF MEXICO. BUSH, I ADMIT, WAS CORRUPT AS FAR AS ILLEGAL IMMIGRATE IS CONCERNED, BUT OBAMA IS EVEN WORSE. VOTE IN NOVEMBER FOR REPRESENTATIVES WHO WILL TAKE THE INTERESTS OF THE AMERICAN FIRST AND MEXICO LAST. TAKE BACK OUR NATION.
August 06 2010 at 9:16 PM Report abuse Permalink +21 rate up rate down ReplyThe Republicans don't care about the illegals, unless theri working for them. Their priorities are to abolish the 14TH amendment because they don't like the equal protection clause in it. They have been trying to figure out a way for years and are using anchor babies for their cannon fodder. nice..........Problem for them is it ain't going to happen, it's just hype to create unrest in the white voters, unless your smart enough to figure it out. THERE ARE LAWS ALREADY ON THE BOOKS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, but they refuse to do that and choose to do this because it creates more stirring of their extremists.
August 06 2010 at 8:08 PM Report abuse Permalink -18 rate up rate down Replydemsdistruction, the problem with your reality is the facts don't fit your reality. go to wikipedia, National debt by presidents.
Increase debt to percentage of GDP
Reagan +11.3%
Reagan +09.3%
Bush +15.0%
Clinton -0,7%
Clinton -9.0%
Bush +07.1%
Bush +20.0% As you can see, go there yourselves, that the Reagan to Bush they have been the party of borrow and spend. What's worst the Bush years had a Republican Congress for 8 years, plenty of time to make changes. But Bush's changes were to give tax breaks to corporations and the wealthy and produced less jobs then in Clinton's term. Tax breaks don't create jobs, and if they do where are they?
