"This was an opportunity for Michelle to join friends and friends' daughters with a vacation with her kids and give them some exposure to a part of the world that they hadn't been before. And I don't think you talk about that -- give it political analysis. I'm glad that both the president and first lady are so focused on being good parents."Gee,how long did it take the damage control boys of the Whitehouse to plant this Story! If the First Lady did not get all the negitive feedback that She had generated from the trip this story would have never been published. It is sad when the trust for the Government is almost gone.
August 16 2010 at 1:49 PM Report abuse Permalink +5 rate up rate down ReplySo is the lady not allowed to go anywhere? I mean come on people, so what if she took a vacation. She did pay for it herself. It doesn't matter where she went, she would still have had the secret service with her and we would be paying for that. If she had gone to the Gulf Coast we still would have paid for the secret service.
My family went on vacation this summer too. Just because the economy is bad does not mean that people can not enjoy themselves if they have the means to do so. We can not all just stay depressed holed up in our homes waiting for better days. For one if everyone does that then the economy will never turn around.
And before you say that she went to Spain so how does that help our economy, I will say that in this day and time our economy in this world is all linked together and until we all are at the point that we can spend money, regardless of where, then the entire world is going to be in trouble.
No matter what people in the spotlight do they can not win, they are damned if they do and damned if they don't. So do what makes you happy and forget the criticism. I am glad that she got to spend some time with her daughter and friends. I would have loved to have gotten to that with my mom when I was young. Sasha is a lucky little girl and should cherish the experiences she is allowed to partake in. I would be doing the same thing if I were First Lady and had kids.
Ummmm Tell Me...Instead of flying herself over to Spain on Air Force II at taxpayers' expense, billing us @ $11,000.00/Hour in flight, and paying, out of our pockets, $75,000.00/Day for her security, could not the moocher Michelle have transported her grieving friend from Spain to Washington D.C. at the Obamas' or even the taxpayers' expense for a hell of a lot less money?
August 15 2010 at 3:57 PM Report abuse Permalink +9 rate up rate down ReplyGet over it!! This doesn't warrant all this space in the news. She paid for her own expenses. If you object to secret services protection for her and her daughters then take it away from ALL the Bush's, Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter and all the campaigning wannabe's. If she doesn't get protection then nobody does.
Personally I hope she had a great time. Living in a fish bowl can't be easy.
michelle obama is doing nothing different from any other first lady. they all have their projects. hers is childhood obesity. laura bush and barbara bush both focused on education and reading. nancy reagan's campaign was the war on drugs. if you work 72 hours a week, which i find hard to believe, but even if you do and you can't afford a vacation then that's your fault. not the president's and certainly not the first lady's. you need to manage your money better. that's what got us in this mess in the first place-people were too dependent on credit cards versus cash on hand. try living cash on hand, then you'll see how dependent you were on credit cards. do you realize that a credit card with a limit of 1,000.00 takes almost 10 years to pay off making the minimum monthly payment! that's ridiculous, but that's the scam the banks ran on us for years, and we wouldn't be aware of it if it wasn't for president obama. think about it. he told us during his election campaign that it would take time and patience..obviously too many americans don't have the patience. our economy didn't get screwed up quickly, so it's going to take time to fix it. we must support our president-he won by a land-slide so were are all of the supporters who voted him in? that's the problem with our country, when we're on top, everybody's happy, when we get in a bind, everybody's complaining-get over it already-you don't like it, try living in haiti...just my opinion
August 15 2010 at 10:00 AM Report abuse Permalink -9 rate up rate down ReplyI think the oddest thing about this whole "story", if it is one....is......what about poor President Obama's Birthday??????? Did Mrs. O and the girls really leave him "home alone"??? I know he had a big bash in Chicago, but that was for $$$$$$$$$. I know "dessert is not a right" in Mrs. O's opinion, but I should think she and the girls would have given Daddy a little B-Day celebration that was just them. V. Odd to me. Doesn't he count in his own home?
Annoying is: The Prez and gang jetting all over the globe for very little reason, leaving an ever increasing carbon footprint, while we peons are lectured about being "green". What phonies! I just shopped for a new washing machine, and am chagrined to learn that, NO, I cannot buy a washer that has a warm water rinse option. Only cold water for rinse. Cause it's greener. Really??? How about this: the electric car. Crazy. We are supposed to want to buy a GM Volt, and taxpayers are footing yet another giveaway of 7,500 bucks rebate per vehicle. YET: here in Ohio, these vehicles can only be driven 25 MPH, and only on roads posted at 35MPH or lower. I checked laws in other states for electric vehicles. Many have similar restrictions. In some states, they will not give driver's tests in an electric vehicle. So what, we all have to have a combustion-engine car also???? Battery recharge is 6 to 8 hours. I'm all for getting away from oil, but this is not the answer. This vehicle just has a bigger smokestack (at the nearest power plant) since, it only has a range of 40 miles between charges. So...... since more than half of our electric power is coal generated, so now, with the Volt we are burning coal instead of oil??????????????????? Who thinks up this stuff, Al Gore????? Oh, I forgot, both he and Mr. Obama are Nobel Prize winners. I guess that fixes things.
Give me a break! She didnt want to go to Oprahs birthday party for her husband!
August 15 2010 at 8:10 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMichelle Obama as a highly educated and accomplished professional woman is performing her role as First Lady in an updated manner from most former First Ladies. She is actively involved in promoting healthy eating, growing an organic garden on the White House grounds, supporting the military service members spouses and numerous other initatives that we are not aware of. If she chooses to vacation with her daughter and a grieving friend anywhere in the world it is her business and no one elses so back off.
August 14 2010 at 5:18 PM Report abuse Permalink -15 rate up rate down ReplyShe paid for her expenses because being the intelligent woman that she is she knew that it would something more for Obama haters to comment on...Mrs Regan, The living presidents and their wives get secret service so what is wrong here? Mrs Obama needed secret service protection because there have been so many threats to her husband life, you people that hate Obama would critize no matter what they do.
August 13 2010 at 7:27 PM Report abuse Permalink -20 rate up rate down ReplyMichelle Obama is not an elected official. She has the right to go wherever she chooses on vacation, for any reason. She does not need to explain why she choose Spain or volunteer that she went to be with a grieving friend, though frankly, I love that she did that. She paid for the trip and she's entitled to the secret service protection. The economy is still plodding along but somehow flights are full, theme parks are full, hotels are booked, people are vacationing as they see fit and The First Family is entitled to do so as well.
