Sarah Palin, speaking about the plane crash
in which former Sen. Ted Stevens was killed, called Stevens "an Alaskan hero."
Speaking on Fox News Channel
while Stevens' fate was not yet known -- there has been no official word about his condition -- Palin added: "The rescue efforts are extremely challenging, very, very difficult. You have to hope for the best and pray for these rescue workers that they don't hit such adverse conditions that they too don't become part of the problem. . . . They have their job cut out for them."
Nine people were aboard the plane. The FAA confirmed that five had died, two were seriously injured and two were missing.
In the past, Palin and Stevens have had their ups and downs
. But today, Palin said: "He is a warrior. Senator Ted Stevens is an Alaskan hero. A World War II vet who has dedicated his life to his country. He is one of our heroes."
