Sarah Palin, speaking about the plane crash in which former Sen. Ted Stevens was killed, called Stevens "an Alaskan hero."

Speaking on Fox News Channel while Stevens' fate was not yet known -- there has been no official word about his condition -- Palin added: "The rescue efforts are extremely challenging, very, very difficult. You have to hope for the best and pray for these rescue workers that they don't hit such adverse conditions that they too don't become part of the problem. . . . They have their job cut out for them."

Nine people were aboard the plane. The FAA confirmed that five had died, two were seriously injured and two were missing.

In the past, Palin and Stevens have had their ups and downs. But today, Palin said: "He is a warrior. Senator Ted Stevens is an Alaskan hero. A World War II vet who has dedicated his life to his country. He is one of our heroes."

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.

Sarah Palin is a class act and was the best follow-up to Ted Stevens. Alaka is forever indebted to him for his political savvy and for gaining so much government support. Both have Alaskan blood, and that is why we love them so! You go girl, I am forever in your camp! Rest in peace Ted, she carries your torch.

Will try to comment one more time; Those who served in WWII were Heroes
for that great duty! The corrupt politicians they became later is another thing, but I will always honor them for their bravery in serving and being part of saving us all from a terrible domination.

I just "LOVE" Ms. Palin. I said "NO" to that bridge to nowhere which was sponsered by Mr. Stevens. One should research all he did against America much like Ms. Palin.

Just because you fight for this country, does not make you a hero when you decided to become corrupt.. Remember Timothy McVeigh served in the Army in the Gulf War... A HERO IS NEVER EVIL...

I know that he was a WWII vet. I don't know if he did anythingto warrant being refered to as a hero.

Why does Palin consider him to be an ALASKAN HERO? Because he was the KING of PORK, or because he got caught dirty while providing that service for Alaskans?

At least the Bridge to Nowhere went down in flames. Oh wait. Wasn't Palin a supporter for that bridge?

sarah palin is a very classy lady. Even when other's ideologies differ from hers,
she still finds common ground on which to apply courtesies and grace. God bless you, Sarah!!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. It is something that should be considered by the people currently posting.

Cut her some slack; she just got back from a grueling commercial fisherman photo-op.

The former mayor has found another platform to display her er, ah, "courage".

Both Ted Stevens and Sarah Palin are politicians that have been inflated by the media. Insignificant people inflated for political reasons so that the entrenched economic royalists continue to coop the government for their interests, while hiding in their mansions, counting their dividend checks, and using the media to divide the public on social issues.
