Tea Party Pick Ken Buck Wins Colorado Republican Senate Primary

Weld County district attorney Ken Buck rode outsider sentiment and Tea Party energy to an upset win over Lt. Gov. Jane Norton in the Republican Senate primary in Colorado. He'll face appointed Sen. Michael Bennet in the fall.

Norton, the establishment pick, appeared headed for a smooth primary season until Buck caught conservative imaginations and started to surge. His highest profile ally in Washington was Sen. Jim DeMint, the South Carolina firebrand who is backing Tea Party-favored candidates across the country.

Norton was not aided by her many Washington ties, which included fundraising help from the National Republican Senatorial Committee. Buck stumbled when, asked at a conservative gathering why people should vote for him, he replied, "Because I do not wear high heels." Norton seized on the remark and ran with it, but was unable to stop Buck's momentum.
