Obama Scores Above 50 Percent Approval on Only 1 of 13 Issues

President Obama scores above 50 percent approval on only one of 13 issues that Gallup has surveyed in polls conducted July 27-Aug. 1 and Aug. 5-8.

The only issue on which Obama has majority approval is race relations, where 52 percent give his handling of it positive marks while 38 percent disapprove.

Obama is in positive territory on three other issues where a plurality approve of his performance: education (49 percent approve to 40 percent disapprove); terrorism, (48 percent approve, 45 percent disapprove); and, energy policy (47 percent approve, 42 percent disapprove).
Barack Obama
But it's downhill from there starting with his overall handling of foreign policy where 48 percent disapprove and 44 percent approve.

The five issues where he does the worst:

- Immigration: 62 percent disapprove, 29 percent approve.
- The federal budget deficit: 64 percent disapprove, 31 percent approve.
- Afghanistan: 57 percent disapprove, 36 percent approve.
- The economy: 59 percent approve, 38 percent disapprove.
- Healthcare policy: 57 percent disapprove, 40 percent approve.

It's worth noting that, for the most part, the issues on which the public disapproves of Obama's performance are the ones most polls say it regards as the most important. The ratings also reflect a turnaround on the public's view of Obama's handling of Afghanistan, which was a positive for him earlier in his presidency.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.

I disapprove of Obamas rating period. For one he is turning against the Jewish state. Turning his back on Israel. The apple of Gods eye. And we are a christian nation. And we always will be. Obama is not sticking up for christians of this country. Why is he covering the Holy crosses of Jesus Christ when he has speeches? Why is he and his family always going on exspenive vacations when a crisis in our country needs his attention. He even banned a Day of Prayer. How many times has he been on tv making promises to do this and to do that. Obama need some good listens from President Ronald Regan. He loved God and loved this Country God Bless America!

We are not a Christian nation, just because the minority of the Founders were Christian. The majority of the Founders were white and male, so does this make us a white male nation? Seriously, you need to understand that America is for every individualist of every religious background, not the Religious Right or the Catholic Worker Movement.

Anthony E.- Your claims of racism against Obama ring hollow. Did you ever consider the possibility that it may just be his policies causing disfavor? If racism is so endemic in this country as you suggest how was Obama elected?

I know, how the race card comes up all the time, I can't figure. Is it not enough that Obama received massive support from white voters, must you agree with all his policies or your racist ?

It is time to accept personal responsibility for his actions and his policies. It is called leadership. We would not accept constant excuses from our children why should we from our Pres.?

President Obama is the best person to have happened to this Country, The United States of America since President John Fitzgerald Kennedy. People Hated Kennedy because he was Catholic. It has shown that a man 15 times more smarter than the previous President is ridiculed because of who he is. It has shown that The People of the United States of America have become some of the most uninformed bigots that have ever existed. It was bound to happen that a man who is of Black Descent would be so ridiculed not because of his policies but because of what he looks like. Many of the policies that are in place have helped a great many Americans to make it to the next day. However America now has become the "ME" Country. We do not care about the next man. It is a pity that a President who has done so much in a mere 2 years which in turn has helped this country immensely is being subjected to some of the most vile comments and attacks ever. Most of the criticism comes from a deep pathological hate for Black People. We in the Black community understand that and I am sure that President Obama does also. Yet he has the courage to stand by his Principals as everyday he is faced with such mis-guided ravenous Hate. Even with that understanding many people were just wondering when it would happen because it is the snake and the turtle story, some of you just can't help who you truly are. That is it in a nut shell sad but so true..

I have heard alot of what we should not be doing by the republicans but not too much about what we should do because they want to go back to what they were doing and that is to make really rich people richer and the middle class smaller.

Dude ... The message is that we don't have to return. The Tea Party is not the GOP. We tried European socialism and it has a bad taste. We talked about redistribution of wealth and it has a bad smell. We tried Obama and ... well let's just say it just isn't working out so well. I felt that McCain was not right for the US, but I would have walked him to Washington DC (and I live in Maine) to avoid what we have in residence now.
We need to spur economic growth by making capital available for business formation and expansion. Without that there are no jobs - there is no growth and there is no hope.

Giving money to people to spend on beer and peanuts isn't going to fix our economy. Making one rent or mortgage payment for 100 million people won't do it either. And who will pay for all this government largesse? - You, me, my kids, my grand kids, my great-grand kids. All so an unqualified man in the White House can tinker with the world's largest economy and believe he is flirting with greatness. He may have a big heart, but his plan bespeaks an absence of common sense. This is not how you balance your checkbook at home is it? And, this isn't even his money to spend.

Obama has had two years to start turning it around, and he has only made things worse by the give away programs.

Americans should have followed DUBYA'S advice and invest a portion of their SS dollars in Wall $treet; this way, they would have more control of their money - and so what if the 2006 melt down would have eaten up some?.

Americans can only relate to presidents that can easily bury the truth : Iraqis oil will pay for the war, our troops will be stumbbling over WMD's when entering Baghdad, we shall be greeted with flowers; sorry guys,I really don't don't what's the cause for theexpansion of that stone garden called Arlington.

According to General Sada's book much of the WMD stockpile was moved to Syria. Our customs agents (time and Newsweek April 1990) stopped nuclear triggers from being purchased by Saddam. Saddam stole much of the military hardware we sold to Kuwait when he invaded with 700 tanks; at some point the far left have to stop listening to Senator Kerry's 'he lied' rants during his campaign against Bush.
