BP spokesman Justin Saia told the AP the company had not seen the lawsuit and had no comment.
The lawsuits are not supported by Alabama's governor, Republican Bob Riley, who has said he hopes BP will voluntarily compensate the state. But King accused BP of dragging its feet and said the lawsuits were appropriate now.
"As Alabama's lawyer, I say that, if anything, based on BP's broken promises, their history of saying one thing and doing another, and now, new information that they have been secretly working to gain a legal advance, further delay can only further damage our people," King said.
I CANNOT HELP BUT WONDER WHY GOV BOB RILEY IS NOT BEING A LOT MORE AGRESSIVE TOWARDS BP. IM HAPPY TO SEE THE ALABAMA ATTORNEY GENERAL TROY KING LOOKING OUT FOR THE INTERESTS OF THE PEOPLE OF ALABAMA, WHEN ITS OBVIOUS THAT THE GOVERNOR WANTS TO GO EASY ON BP, HALLIBURTON AND TRANSOCEAN BECAUSE OF REPUBLICAN CONNECTIONS.

They deserve to pay for everything, because of their sloppy business pratices, and their failure to follow rules and regulations that are in place for the sole purpose of protecting the environment. Go get em Florida, Lousianna, and Mississippi! They need to pick up the tab for the full clean up and not only what Washington bills them for. The States will never see a penny from Washington to help because they already have plans to waste the money they get. Just like they waste everything else!
