A Pie for Sen. Carl Levin -- but Not the Sort He'd Order

Sen. Carl Levin might like pie, but surely not served this way. The Michigan Democrat was listening to a question at constituent meeting in the town of Big Rapids on Monday when a woman struck him in the face with a pie.

Ahlam M. Mohsen, 22, of Coldwater, Mich., will be arraigned Tuesday, the AP reports, after being held without bond on a felony charge of stalking and misdemeanor counts of assault and disorderly conduct.

Mohsen told the Big Rapids Pioneer she hoped "to send a message that liberals and Democrats are just as implicated in the violence [of war] as the Republicans."

Big Rapids is located 150 miles northwest of Detroit.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.

I spend the summer months in northwest Michigan and all I can say is that the politicians in this state deserve every pie aimed at them.

Of course it was wrong, but, isn't your "little voice" saying "I'd like to have seen that!". Hope it was a banana caramel pie. Reminds me of Soupy Sales.

Throwing the pie was wrong. You have to give the woman credit she got a strong message across. Maybe this is what all the democrats in Washington need to get their attention since they refuse to listen.

I talked to Carl last summer and he told me he was for Government Care , Illegal Alien Amnesty and a National VAT tax that he was helping create plans for. Neither him or Debbie Stabenow held Town Halls for good reason.

I wrote to him and got a written reply with the same answers. When he runs for re-election we need to make sure he goes. Debbie Stabenow is even worse about her positions; does not answer her letters or e-mail on the Obama Care issue.

Don't care for Levin, but less for this nonsense - what a jerk to do that to someone.

I understand hating politicians, but her reasoning doesn't make sense. bush was going to send troops regardless of Congress's "approval" as he stated often. This was allowed after Bush Sr. started the first Gulf action without a congressional declaration of war (that only Congress can do). I remember lots of court battles back then.

Your comment doesn't make sense. This woman threw a pie because she thinks the war is wrong. She doesn't care if you're republican or democrat. Bush got shoes thrown at him by someone, remember that?

Bush 41 and Bush 43 are long gone - have anything relevant to the post?
