On Monday's edition of Fox News' "Special Report," Weekly Standard editor and Fox News contributor Bill Kristol said he agreed with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's comments regarding a controversial mosque planned near Ground Zero.

"I agree with Harry Reid. I've wanted to say that for three and a half years," Kristol joked.

Watch the video here:

A partial transcript is here:
I agree with Harry Reid. I've wanted to say that for three and a half years -- the three and a half years he's been Senate majority leader. I don't think I've ever said that on this set, or anywhere else. But I'm bipartisan kind of guy. . . . The Reid/Kristol position -- if I can call it that -- is that, of course, there are legal rights to use the private party in accordance with the local laws, but . . . the mosque should be built somewhere else.

What do they say about property? Location, location, location. This is about the location. And you know, Governor Paterson, the Democratic governor of New York, about a week ago, offered the builders and Imam Rauf, [saying], 'We will help you find another place that's maybe half a mile away, where you won't raise these questions about your intention -- and you won't offend a lot of people' -- and he was turned down, it appears. So this is not finding a place for worship for Muslims in lower Manhattan, this is making a statement.

And I think a provocative and offensive statement to many Americans -- right at Ground Zero. And that's what I think Harry Reid's comments actually bring out very well. And that is something that President Obama, I think, will have to express an opinion about at some point.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.

people choose to hear what they want, THE BACKERS ARE A GROUP OF CHRISTIANS< JEWS: and yes MUSLIMS. to move it would defeat the message about America that they intended to send the world. You know about people of diffrent faiths being about to socialize, and respect each others faith. The fact that America is not trying to destroy muslims, but terroist {no matter what faith they ambush) and more of the 9/11 families support the "COMMUNITY CENTER" than oppose it. 9/11 was a national tragedy, but it is not more important than the values that our nation was formed on. As i have told my children, sticking to your values and our laws may not always be easy, but they will always be whats right for our Nation. I am a veteran and my husbands family came to this country in 1711, mine in 1790, We are Christians and we are not at war with the MUSLIM people, especially thoose who are also our fellow Americans, many whom I proudly served my Country with. This is their country also. Why should they move it to please a group of people who just want somebody to hate.

There are other reasons to change the location. IF they can find someone to build it, the workers and construction process will be subject to threats and acts of injury and vandalism. If completed, it may as well have a bull's eye painted on it. Certainly there are Oklahoma City bomber whacko types who will want to "get even". This will worsen an already inflamed relationship between Americans and Islam. Is it really worth it?? Not a matter of "rights" (there are around 100 mosques in NYC)...but of sensitivity and practicality.

We have to believe that by bell curve statistics alone, there are some very smart Muslims in the world, and a few in the USA as well. But where these folks are now hiding is anyone's guess. What we do know is that those Muslims promoting the 911 sight mosque are deliberately antagonistic, insensitive, waging a hateful drive by rubbing salt in countless wounds. There is no question here about "freedom of religion", the question here has to do with the advisability of stupidity. The Muslims, unfortunately---perhaps even unwittingly---aided by our own President Barack Obama, have started a blaze that will spread a long way before it goes out. No one wins on this. Like I said, where are the Muslim brains here?

You invade two Muslim countries to install democracy, you say, but you deny them their rights in your democracy. So are you a democracy or are you what you what the enemy says you are, a capitalist christian warrior bent on destroying Islam for oil?

The fact that these Muslims apparently are clueless as to why people are upset says it all. Until the "good" Muslims take responsibility for what is done in their name, they will never come out of the shadows. It is very creepy to think that a Muslim hang-out will be built on what very well could be the very ashes of those who perished on 9-11. I totally understand why the victims' families would be upset.

You don't really think they are clueless do ya? I mean if they get the Mosque they will tell the world it is dedicated to the Muslims that gave their lives for Allah on 9-11, if we don't allow the Mosque they will tell the Muslim world, see we told you the Great Satan was a Zionist country. We are not gonna win, no way at all, just allowing it to start made them win.

Of course, everyone is agreeing with Harry Reid, but if Harry weren't losing in Nevada or at the least if he felt better about his reelection, he wouldn't be saying this. I just do not believe that he is being sincere. He is a wolf in sheeps clothing and as liberal as they get. Political gain for himself.

I am a long time conservative Republican.I usually agree with Bill Kristol,as i did with Bill Buckley.

I understand what the Constitution says, but i also understand when something like this appears,a different position may be appropriate. This i feel does show complete disregard of most American's feeling about the sacred aspects almost of the Trade Towers being destroyed. BUILD IT SOMEWHERE ELSE.

You still don't understand American history, and apparently still don't understand the Constitution. The founding fathers knew the perils of favoring one religion over another. There were Muslims in this country when it founded and no one had a problem then and shouldn't now. There is a Catholic Church and a Christian Church even closer then this community center.
