Fox News Parent Company Gives $1 Million to GOP Governors Group

The corporate parent of Fox News Channel has contributed $1 million to the Republican Governors Association, provoking criticism among Democrats that the donation crosses a line that should separate corporate ownership from news operations.

Fox News boasts that it is "fair and balanced," but Democrats have long complained that many of its programs tilt toward conservative Republican viewpoints. "It's a jaw-dropping violation of the boundary between the media and corporate realm," said Nathan Daschle, executive director if the Democratic Governors Association.
Rupert Murdock
But Jack Horner, spokesman for Rupert Murdock's News Corp., said "it's patently false that a corporate donation would have any bearing on our news-gathering activities at Fox News or any other of our properties." Murdock's company also owns the Wall Street Journal, the New York Post and the Times of London. The company, in a statement, said it "believes in the power of free markets, and the RGA's pro-business agenda supports our priorities at this most critical time for our economy," the Washington Post reported.

The contribution was first disclosed by Bloomberg Business News. But it is not unusual for media companies to support political parties and candidates, the Post said. General Electric, which owns NBC, has given to the Democratic governors and Republican governors within the past year, and Disney, owner of ABC, has also given to both parties, as has CBS. But Daschle said those donations were for lesser amounts and benefited both parties.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Fox News is the water carrier for big business and the Republican party. Do we need anymore proof than this $1 million contribution?

The actual FACTS of news are reported by Keith Olberman and Rachel Maddow on MSNBC. They add COMMENTARY at the end of their shows. Not so with Faux Snooze. They start supporting Tea Party and Republican candidates or issues right off the bat and snidely remark about Democratic candidates or issues. They skew the facts to fit their opinions. THAT is the difference between the two networks.

Oh please, where do you get your information? You certain don't get it from watching Fox. Your comments clearly resound of the facts and opinions stated by Media Matters or Huffington... Why are there so many democrats that appear on Fox? I guess you are telling me Mr.Gibbs, Anthony Weiner and others are misrepresting their party. Oh sorry... you must have missed those.

The trouble with Fox news is, they "become the news" instead of reporting it

I really don't care if Fox opinion shows lean right. The rest of TV/Cable newsrooms are more liberal than ever, so it's nice to get another point of view.

"News" does not include opinion. News is reporting factually and accurately something that actually occured. Factual and accurate are very rare commoditys on Fox News. Commentary is not news. Commentary is opinion. Amazing that some folks don't know the difference.

and Maddow and Matthews and Olberman's "opinions" are what you're also talking about?????? I've watched everything. Fox has news and some opinion shows. MSNBC is either all opinion shows or AMERICAN GREED or "Dateline"!!!!!!!!!! It's sad that people like YOU don't know the difference.

General Electric -(NBC MSNBC) gave half a mil to the Obama campaign--so since their ratings are in the tank--and Fox's are thru the roof--it would make sense that Fox had more money to give --------I mean--who actually watches NBC news or MSNBC?

Anyone interested in finding News will watch many of the so called cable news opinion shows if only to get other points of view. Many have stopped using their minds and watch only one sides opinions without even looking into the issues in a broader sense, like using the Information available to you thru the internet. Those that only watch one set of opinions seem to be very narrow minded and find it easier to belive everything they hear.

Of course the democrats are outraged. Good for Fox News, keep contributing, it is your right to do so. You can bet the democrats will try for more legislation and probably a law suit. Can't wait to see it get to the Supreme Court and be shot down again.

Fox News? That is like saying Rush Limbaugh News, Glen Beck News, Shawn Hannity News or any other show that gives opinion. OPINION IS NOT NEWS! I wish the people in this country could learn the difference.

BIG JOHN, That's like saying Keith O., Rachel M. and all NBC, CBS, ABC are News shows ! How funny that you think their shows give news, not opinion. The public is not stupid (despite the elite's OPINION). I agree I wish the people in this country could learn the difference, but for now they are sticking with SEAN Hannity, etc. to hear something other than WH talking points.
