"Every seafood sample from re-opened waters has passed sensory and chemical testing for contamination of oil and dispersant," Leher told Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.). "No unsafe levels of contamination of the seafood has been found."Unfortunately, the Feds will side with business until the body count becomes impossible to ignore. Then they flip and attack business. That was a lot of oil. If the oil was eaten or dispersed, it was done so in the Gulf of Mexico by lower food chain creatures. Which are eaten by higher food chain creatures. And so on. The oil will disappear from the Gulf of Mexico by fishing the bigger creatures higher in the food chain. Eventually ending up in us. I think we'll see a rise of new symptoms and unique health problems in the future for this area. I wonder how the Feds will pay for this healthcare after some deal is done with BP to either limit or cap their liability? (Yes, of course you know that's in the works! You think the Feds will let BP cut their loses and pull out of the US market?)

August 22 2010 at 9:59 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyWhen those government scientists go down to the Gulf and eat a wide sampling of the shrimp with no bad results, I will seriously doubt their credibility.

August 20 2010 at 2:28 PM Report abuse Permalink +2 rate up rate down ReplyI would not trust anything anyone from this government said. If it is so safe, I think they should been seen live on tv eating it! I for one will not eat gulf seafood from the affected area, and I live in Texas, until I am very sure it is safe.

August 20 2010 at 1:31 PM Report abuse Permalink +2 rate up rate down ReplyAre you kidding me? The FDA has only tested for the effects of 1 element? And they still think it is safe? Government scientist saying the fish is safe, yet no new testing is being done? Personally, I am not going to be eating fish from the gulf for a long time. I don't trust the FDA. I don't think they are looking out for the best interest of the people, more like the best interest of whatever company is lining their pockets at the momement. I hope someone who knows what they are doing, with no hidden agenda, gets in there and conducts real testing, before people start getting sick and it's too late to do anything about it.
