And b thankful 4 her voice,America!Dr.Laura:don't retreat...reload! (Steps aside bc her 1st Amend.rights ceased 2exist thx 2activists trying 2silence"isn't American,not fair")
Had Dr. Laura stuck to the topic at hand and not drifted off of what the caller was really asking then she wouldn't be in this situation. A situation that she herself caused. She has to know how forceful the word "n....." is but yet she had to blatantly say is 11 times to drive her point across. The caller simply wanted to know how to address her husband and his friends when they were being a little to un-PC for her. The caller never brought up that her husband or her husbands friend were saying the n-word, that was Dr. Laura's own doing. No one is trying to take her first amendment rights - she is free to say whatever she feels like, including the n-word, but must realize that with free speech comes the responsibility of being accountable for what and how you say things. If you go back and listen to the conversation again, you will notice that when Dr. Laura says even the word black it is with more emphasis than would be heard in normal speech, almost as if she was having to force herself to even use that word. For Dr. Laura to comment that maybe the women shouldn't have married out of her own race was to me equally offensive. The whole of the conversation by Dr. Laura was offensive to me and again, had she simply helped the woman caller with her issue, she wouldn't be in the quagmire she is in today.
August 19 2010 at 12:39 PM Permalink +1Personally I find the words "lame" and "retarded" as bad as what Laura said. And for similar reasons. But about the physiologist's verbal tirade all I can say is I thought she was dead.
August 19 2010 at 12:39 PM PermalinkWe have all heard the comment, "use it or lose it" relating to many things. But, we probably never thought it would apply to Freedom and Liberty. Sarah is right, Reload! Use your Freedom to speak, take advantage of your Liberty to do so! Be ProActive and assert the freedoms granted to you by God and protected by our Constitution. Use it or Lose it!
August 19 2010 at 12:38 PM Permalink +1this is all about nothing and just another attack on a conservative voice in america. it was not, as stated, an epithet. she did not call the woman a name, but just stated the use of the word.. it is ridiculous that she is being called out. harry reid is a racist pig, calling obama a light skinned negro with no negro dialect, and he is still spouting his mouth off.. as well as biden, another racist pig... yes, ridiculous, and in the end, racist..
August 19 2010 at 12:37 PM Permalink +2Sarah Palin and Laura Schlessinger have a lot in common - they are both dangerous, especially to people who can't think for themselves. Enough said.
August 19 2010 at 12:28 PM Permalink +4Trying to silence first amendment rights? Constitutional obstructionists? Is this the same Sarah Palin who, a couple of weeks ago, had her husband and thugs rip down a protester's sign that read "worst governor ever"? Why are Dr. Laura's words protected by the first amendment, but the protesters are not, Sarah?
August 19 2010 at 12:28 PM Permalink +2I am offended by the "N" word whether spoken by a white or African American. The world would be a better place if The word wasn't heard again from comedians or Rap artiss or others. Until then I will support someone for using the word in an explantion not an excuse on why it's hard to understand the African American Culture use of this word in everyday language, but are horiified when spoken from someone outside of thier race. German Americans, American Hispanics, or other Ethnic groups rarely use derogetary terms of thier own race in music or comedy acts. Please have African American Leaders start protesting it's use in the community and the media. If it's not respectful for someone outside the community, then it should be protested loudly when used by African Americans.
August 19 2010 at 12:17 PM PermalinkHere ia the word playing quote of a left extremist who likes to play with words alone in the closet. " who forced her off the air?" And here is the answer. NO ONE "Forced her off the air" She took control and said she would not play their word games. Instead, like Sarah Palin, she decided that this was a waste of valueable time and she was right. She decided to handle this in a way that would result in "talking heads and lawyers" made no money off of foolishness and genereated controversy. Good for her. These two women are smarter than the average lawyer. and maybe smarter than the left who thinks these political laweyers can use Americas forever as we sit here thinking this "foolishness from the legal establishment and the left" This is just more mental diddling and needs to be circumvented to get the job done.
August 19 2010 at 12:16 PM Permalink +2The First Amendment protects the right of citizens to free speech from interference by the government. No government at any level had anything to do with the firestorm that Schlessinger endured after her racially insensitive and bigoted remarks over the air. Thoughtful and infuriated citizens brought her down. Freedom of speech is a necessary feature of democracies but it comes with responsibility and requires self-restraint. While she exercised her right to free speech (no government censorship), she should have realized that a civilized society will not allow uncivilized speech to go unnoticed. Finally, once again Palin has demonstrated her complete lack of knowledge and understanding for the Constitution by taking a stand contrary to what it actually says and means.
August 19 2010 at 12:13 PM Permalink +3I agree that we all have the right to free speech, but do that mean that we can just saw things to offend others, and not have consequences. I've never been a fan of Dr. Laura's but I have listened to her show as a quide for, what not to do in a therapy session. Sarah Palin, now that's all together another story. I would expect nothing less from her. Keep doing what you're doing Sarah, oil always comes to the surface. I'm African American, Black, and male, so I hear the N-word a lot. I agree with Dr. Laura that we shouldn't be using this term, in hatred, death, lynchings, and oppression as a term of endearment. I don't let my fellow African American or Black sisters and brother's call me this name and will ask them not to say it in my presence. Their rights shouldn't stomp on mine. I find it degrading when I hear it in music or anywhere else. It makes my skin crawl when I hear people use it so loosely, especially my older relatives who know first hand what this word conotates. I'm a psychotherapist and have had many people, black, white and other wise that you can't be racist if you're black, but I say b@*% s@*^. Racism is racism it knows no bounds or colors. We all need to quit it and grow up. Thank you, Barry Edith, LCSW
