In her recently published memoir, "Spoken From the Heart," Mrs. Bush recalled the morning of Sept. 11 as a warm one graced by "a brilliant cerulean blue" sky. Hours later, she wrote, "the world as I knew it had irrevocably changed." On the first anniversary of the attacks, President and Laura Bush attended a ceremony at Ground Zero in New York and spoke with survivors, firefighters, and those who had lost loved ones. Later that day, the first couple met with relatives of the passengers who died on United 93. In remarks at a ceremony that day, Homeland Security Adviser Tom Ridge, who was Pennsylvania's governor at the time of the attacks, said, "We do not know how long it will take to defeat the scourge of terrorism or how many Americans will give their lives for the cause. But we do know one thing with absolute certainty: The passengers and crew of Flight 93 won the first battle."Well I guess we will not be there this year. Maybe NYC would be a good choice.

They love their country enough to put their own feelings aside and do what is best for our country. Thanks for all you have done and continue to do, Mr and Mrs Bush.

But wonder if discussions will turn to fashion. UGGH again! What will W be doing? O is running the country but I assume he will take time out as appropriate in spite of a busy schedule.
August 23 2010 at 6:13 PM Report abuse Permalink -2 rate up rate down ReplyThis is appropriate. The two of them. Afer all, they are our surving First Ladies. And I guess the only two that can walk around with ease anymore. Reminds me of Bonnie Raitt who used to team up with other blues singers on recordings which made a really awesome statement and boost her own exposure. Already a fantastic singer, it didn't hurt Raitt at all and we all got the benefit. This seems like something Laura Bush would do as a matter of course, and Michelle Obama will get good press for being 'involved' after all of her endless vacationing. And of course, she still carries that stigma, out here in astroturfland of 'not being proud of her country'. That is, until Americans voted in her very far left husband. Obama's being in Laura Bush's company will make her more appealing to the unwashed masses because I do not think she's a particularly well liked FLOTUS in spite of various attempts to give her a warmer image. She's remains to many of us just as mysterious and unsettling as her husband and I personally can't wait to kick them both to the curb in 2012. But I see nothing wrong with this support of '9/11'. Especially since Barrack Obamas lastest Mosque comments which were so inflammatory and divisive.

August 23 2010 at 2:50 PM Report abuse Permalink +25 rate up rate down ReplyDoes Michelle think she will look more like a true patriot and have more class if she is photographed with Laura? Otherwise why would she appear with the wife of the man that left such a mess for her poor husband to clean up?
August 23 2010 at 2:12 PM Report abuse Permalink -27 rate up rate down ReplyMepsell....I think what these ladies are doing is the right thing. Putting all this negative vib aside for a very special time. Let's forget about politics and nonsense for one day, can't this be done, or better yet, shouldn't it be done.
