James Traficant's Latest Comeback on Hold in Ohio

Jim Traficant's latest comeback is still breathing, but barely. Traficant, the colorful former Ohio congressman who was released from prison last year after serving time for bribery and related corruption charges, is trying to get on the ballot in eastern Ohio as an independent candidate for Congress.

Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner said Wednesday that the Mahoning and Trumbull county boards of election must decide by Sept. 1 whether Traficant's has sufficient petitions to qualify for the November ballot, the Youngstown Vindicator said. He came up short in July, but his campaign committee didn't give up its fight for certification. He is apparently lacks 20 valid signatures.

The onetime Mahoning County Sheriff, who was expelled from Congress in 2002, wants to challenge his successor in the U.S. House seat, Rep. Tim Ryan (D). Traficant, who favors wild hairdos and cowboy boots, served 17 years in Congress and then seven years in a federal prison.

Let him run ...if he gets to congress again...he KNOWS where the bodies are (in fact) buried. I'd like to see him on the left flank and the tea party freshman on the right throwing their weight around pushing Nancy and Barney and Henry Waxman in to a closet and locking the door.
