MoveOn Promotes 'TurnOffFox' Campaign

Citing the "platform" Fox News gives Glenn Beck to promote his events, the liberal MoveOn.org Friday encouraged members to support a new project by ColorofChange called, "TurnOffFox."

According to the e-mail, which was forwarded by MoveOn to its members, "TurnOffFox is the first step in our overall effort to beat back the poison, hate, and division of Fox. We'll get Fox turned off in stores, restaurants, and other public places-places where Fox pulls in new viewers and gains legitimacy."

The e-mail goes on to say that,
"The goal of Turn Off Fox is to reduce the number of public TVs showing Fox News, while spreading the word about Fox's poison (and how it works) to those who don't know."

In the past, efforts have been made to target advertisers of Fox News programs, including Glenn Beck. As far as I know, this is the first effort designed to censor the network from being shown in public facilities.

Also in the e-mail, members are encouraged to sign a pledge declaring their homes "Fox Free."

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.

This is good to know. I'll now make it a habit of making sure I ask that Fox News be turned on everywhere I go. MoveOn.org is finally on the run--and scared. Thank God.

This is another iteration of the Fox boycott (by any means necessary). In my opinion it is likely to fail to accomplish its goals because it fails to recognize that there are plenty of people who find the other choices such as ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC to be a uninteresting lump when compared to Fox News/Fox Business. There are no Libertarians to be found on any other network. There are a sprinkling of employees at the other networks who are free-market but they are certainly a token minority. I can see more honest discussion of the issues with a liberal, conservative or libertarian comment on Fox than I can on any other network. Thane Eichenauer

I never watched Fox News until a coupld of months ago, I was the MSNBC or the CNN type, was I surprised at the difference. The liberal propaganda that I was feeding on nearly made me a mindless moron. Out of college I thought I knew a lot, was I mistaken, my teachers should have their minds examined, they were the ones who said that Fox News was on their way out. Fox New Rules!

I love FOX NEWS, I don't watch any other news, the lies on other news stations gets my blood boiling, all Fox all the time, #1 news network!! Keeping the public informed and the more people tune in, the more they realize what the rest of us have know all along, Democratic policies consistently destroy the economy, the dictators in the middle east are laughing at this president's constant apologies, they thought america wouldn't elect another Jimmy Carter, wow go figure!

Our doctor AND dentist offices have FOX NEWS on their waiting room tv's. And NO complaints. In fact, many patients thank the office staff, comment they are pleased to find FOX so available to them. They LIKE the FAIR AND BALANCED reporting. They comment they won't watch the other lib stations. So there you are.

To Fox it's only fair and balanced if you make sure the scales have no left arm

Boycotting fox should be based on who owns fox. The largest stock portion belongs to a saudi prince. A saudi, this is where the original al queida came from. How can you trust a news station that contributes to terroist organazations?

Love the 'play on words,' Frankie. Faux --- French for "fake!" Clever! So I take it you are watching our Fox? Hope so. They do cover both sides of the stories. As they say... Fair and Balanced.

Nianxi, if you mean how Fox tells you the brilliant, wonderful Conservative side then tells you about the loathesome, liberal, anti-American, commie, pinko left side...then you are correct.
