Sen. Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas, who narrowly survived a tight Democratic primary fight, is getting some heavyweight help in her Senate battle against Rep. John Boozman.

Bill Clinton, who helped Lincoln narrowly defeat Bill Halter earlier this summer, will again stump for the senator as she seeks a third term, according to a press release from her campaign.

The former president, who served two terms as Arkansas governor, will attend an event next week in Little Rock celebrating Lincoln's one-year anniversary as chairwoman of the Senate Agriculture Committee.

Lincoln is the first Arkansan to serve as chair in the committee's 185-year history, the release said.

"Agriculture is Arkansas's largest industry, accounting for more than 270,000 jobs, $9 billion in salaries and wages and adding $15 billion to our economy," Lincoln said in a statement. "As Chairman of the Senate Ag Committee, which oversees nearly one-third of our state's economy, my top priority is utilizing this leadership position as a pipeline for jobs and economic opportunity for our state. I am grateful for President Clinton's support in this election and look forward to celebrating what I consider 'Arkansas's Committee' with my fellow Arkansans on September 8."

The Republican Boozman has been leading Lincoln by wide margins. A poll earlier this month showed Boozman ahead of Lincoln by 65 percent to 27 percent with 4 percent preferring some other candidate and 3 percent undecided.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
