Now that Democrat-turned-independent Lawton "Bud" Chiles has dropped out, the Florida governor's race between Republican newcomer Rick Scott and Democrat Alex Sink has tightened, with only 1 percentage point separating them, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted Sept. 1.

Scott, a wealthy former health care executive who dipped deep into his own pockets to win the GOP nomination, leads Sink 45 percent to 44 percent with 9 percent preferring some other candidate and 2 percent undecided. Sink is the state's chief financial officer.

In Rasmussen's Aug. 25 poll, Scott led by 41 percent to 36 percent with Chiles taking 8 percent of the vote -- drawing about equally from Scott and Sink.

When "leaners" are counted in the new poll, Sink leads 48 percent to 47 percent with the rest undecided or preferring another choice.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.

Either Rick Scott stole millions from medicare or he was a terrible administrator. Either way he would be a bad choice for Governor of the great state of FLORIDA.

The choice - The lesser of two evils. I don't really know if there is one.

If Scott was CEO of the Company he was responsible for what they did. Only an incompetant CEO is ignorant of what his company is doing. We don't need another incompentant running this State. Just like what happened to the Federal Government with 8 years of Bush, Florida has had 12 yers of Republicans and have destroyed the economy of Florida.

There is a lot of wasted space on these political pages. Used to be this was the area of the news you could come to to learn about the policies and promises of the candidates. Now it's just a horse race. Gee thanks for all your help is the democratic process, Mr. Drake.

He was not charged and may have had nothing to do with it. In this country we are still innocent until PROVEN guilty. On the other hand, the democrats have PROVEN to be overspending liberal ideologs. Besides, it is extremely easy to misunderstand medicare rules. As a physician I can tell you it is impossible to understand ...thousands of pages of gobledegok. I have over 6 Ph.D.'s in graduate credits, and I swear I cannot understand much of what I try to decode. I can understand biochemistry & neuro-anatomy, but not medicare rules & forms.

Okay, here's my issue with Mr. Scott: he's either a crook who got away with it (and he DID keep over $300 million), or the most incompetent CEO ever. How else could the largest Medicare fraud in history have slid right under his nose? Crook or idiot; in either case, why should we let him buy our Governorship?

It's firghtening that cruisedoc admits that like Scott, he could be ripping off the taxpayers for millions of dollars, and like Scott, setting up the alibi of not knowing what was going on. Isn't that the same defense Democratic Rep. Charles Rangle is using to explain not paying taxes. Here's a thought: If you don't know how to fill out the form, find someone who can, or don't try to go after taxpayer money. But Rick Scott, Cruisedoc and Charles Rangle should line their pockets and then say they didn't know what was happening!!!
