Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will go to Egypt for the second round of the Obama administration's Israeli-Palestinian peace talks Sept. 14-15, The Hill newspaper reports.
"Egypt will host the second round of . . . negotiations in Sharm el-Sheikh," Egypt's Foreign Ministry spokesman Hossam Zaki said in a statement carried by the state news agency MENA. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who began talks in Washington last week, will meet again in Egypt.
A State Department official told Agence France-Presse that special envoy George Mitchell will take part as well.
The Palestinians have said the negotiations will not last if Israel continues new construction in the West Bank, The Hill notes. A 10-month settlement freeze is set to expire Sept. 26. It is unclear whether Israel will extend the moratorium or let it expire.
