Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily!I'm uncomfortable with the idea of a private citizen being harassed by the military for (unfavorable) public expression. It is one thing to personally abhor the proposed act, but must we accept this meddling? Do we want General Petraeus calling up the writers for 'South Park' and 'Saturday Night Live' and asking them to avoid slighting Islam? Do we want him pestering the editors of a certain Danish news paper? Should he ask Salman Rushdie to stay out of the public eye for the public good?
September 16 2010 at 8:35 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyLooks like two decisions need to be made by two different groups of people. Will they make the right decision? One wants to burn the Koran another wants to build a mosque. Both have the right to do it. Lets see who makes the correct decision.
September 07 2010 at 6:37 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyI applaud General Patraeus for his actions, and yes he was the right person for coming out with the remarks he offered. Besides, the general is responsible for over 50,000 Americans in Afgahnistan not to mention other in-country US citizens. If I were a parent or other family member of a man or women who happened to be in Afghanistan, it's exactly what I would expect the general to do. The pastor in Gainsville, Florida needs his head examined, and his so-called title of pastor taken from him. I can't even begin to think of a pastor who espouses hatred. I, for one, wouldn't be part of any congregation who espouses hatred towards another. That's not what Christianity teaches us...
September 07 2010 at 3:34 PM Report abuse Permalink +2 rate up rate down ReplyIts not a good idea to do this.....it will incite violence and death to our USA citizens and soldiers....Please don't do it, lets not have our peoples blood on our hands....we already have to much to fight, please don't do it!

September 07 2010 at 2:41 PM Report abuse Permalink +2 rate up rate down ReplyI agree that America needs to STAND UP more strongly against the Islamists' threats. Burning a "Holy Book," however is not the way to do it!
September 07 2010 at 2:34 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyThis may not be wise, etc. but I don't agree that it will endanger the troops more. That doesn't make sense. They always have known & taught that we are the "great satan", we are mainly "infidels", & thus we're to be killed/taken over. So how does this make it any worse?! Bibles are burned by Muslims, others - nothing new. We're already succumbing to "Sharia law" by not exercising our rights b/c we afraid of retailiation - and that's what they want. This flies in the face of the supporters of Ground Zero Mosque saying we need to show them how great we are here w/our freedom of religion/speech...& all about our Constistutional rights & not "sensitivity". But with this, they say no, it's the other way around.????!!!!!!
September 07 2010 at 2:21 PM Report abuse Permalink +2 rate up rate down ReplyPlease give an example of Muslims burning Bibles. A link to a actual event of this happening will do.
September 07 2010 at 3:34 PM Report abuse Permalink -1 rate up rate down ReplyMomprayn, judging from your comments, you obviously have never served in the US military. Not only does this inflame hatred towards our military but our citizenry abroad as well. You claim Bibles are burned by Muslims, so we should respond in kind. Momprayn, you need help! If you're a Christian Momprayn, I suggest you look at the first two commandments in the bible, and digest them.

September 07 2010 at 1:25 PM Report abuse Permalink -2 rate up rate down ReplyA Jewish scholar said this when one burns books, one burns people. He said that during the Nazi book burnings in 1933.
