Joe Miller, the Sarah Palin-endorsed candidate who upset incumbent Sen. Lisa Murkowski in the Alaska Republican primary, was involved in a three-car crash in Fairbanks just days after the Aug. 24 contest.

The conservative lawyer was cited for failing to "exercise due care to avoid a collision" after he rear-ended another vehicle, which then hit the back of a third car, the Associated Press reported. No one was hurt, police said, although Mark Lewis, driver of the third car, reported some cervical stiffness and numbness in some of his fingers. Lewis also got a ticket for stopping on a highway.

The 43-year-old Miller's campaign manager, Roger Campbell, said he didn't think Miller would contest the citation. Miller was only going 35 mph and had no time to brake after the first car came to a dead stop, Campbell said.

Murkowski conceded her close race with Miller on Aug. 31. Little known before the campaign, Miller picked up steam after getting Palin's endorsement and help from the Tea Party movement. He also may have been helped by a parental notification abortion issue on the ballot. Both candidates favored notification, but Murkowski is pro-choice on some abortion questions.

Miller holds a six-point lead in his November contest against Democrat Scott McAdams, the mayor of Sitka, according to a recent Rasmussen Reports survey.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.

And when is this news? I've had this kind of accident. Paid up and went on. Good grief is this suppose to lead us to believe that Mr. Miller, now, is somehow a irresponsible, reckless person. Get a life.

Are we that low that we would start to report on traffic citations? Geeze, can we find something relevant to report on people? I don't think anybody is going to wake up tomorrow in Alaska and say, "WOW! That Miller guy was in an accident and got a ticket. I'm not voting for him!" I think the journalists really do believe that we are idiots.

Why must every political writer bring Sara Palin into a report about everything that happens to someone she has supported. As far as I am concerened this is a planned attack to demonize her as if some how she is responsible for every action. Only President Obame can make that happen except when it does not bennifit him. It is no wonder that most people heve little truse in political commentators.

It is relevant that Palin's name was brought into this because without her endorsement nobody would know who Joe Miller even is!
