Ad Campaign Goes After Democrats Who Voted for Health Care Reform

Democrats on Capitol Hill who voted for health care reform will be targeted in a multimillion dollar ad campaign by a conservative advocacy group.

Revere America's plan was announced Wednesday by former New York Gov. George Pataki, who said the group hoped to spend $5 million to oust Congress members who backed the health care law put into place this year,
The New York Times reported.

Pataki, the group's chairman, did not name specific lawmakers who would be targeted by the ads, but he said at least one would be in his home state, the Times said.

Revere America released an early TV spot called "Defeat Your Congressman." The voiceover calls the new law "Obamacare:"

Government run health care. It's a bad plan Government bureaucrats will benefit. Seniors will get hurt. Costs will go up. Care will go down. Longer waits in doctors' offices. And your right to pick your own physician taken away. It's a plan we didn't want and don't need but he voted for it anyway. Defeat your congressman.

The claim that Americans would not be able to choose their own doctor is false, according to the Times:

While the law would require virtually all Americans to obtain health coverage, it would not dictate which doctors are available. Many health insurance plans require beneficiaries to use doctors and other health care providers who are part of network approved by the insurer, but nothing in the law would force Americans to choose a particular insurer.

Revere America said health care is its focus during the election cycle but that it would advocate for other issues in the future.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Any congressman who voted for the healthcare bill should have their vote tied around their neck like an anchor or branded on them like a scarlet letter. They should be called out for their yes vote, not run and hide from it like those so called blue dog dems.....

Here is the problem folks. My daughter who has medicaid had a severe outbreak on her face, reg. docs treated it but couldn't diagnose it or cure so they told her to go to a dermatologist who takes medicaid. No dermatologist within a hundred miles will take a medicaid patient. She also has to drive over 50 miles and wait 6 weeks to see a her regular doctor because the approx. 75 Docs. nearer won't take medicaid. So how is this gov. boondoggle going to be any different, it will just make it worse as the majority of older physicians say they will retire because of the government redtape and paperwork they would have to deal with. This will be a big mess.

So much redoric for something that we have yet to see what it really will do for those who have nothing in the way of health care, there are alot of people afraid of it really working and actually helping people and that those people who can afford health insurance are probably worried there taxes are going to go up. But I say if your making 250,000.00 a year or more, then you can afford the tax bill compared to those who don't have a job and nowhere to live. It's so obvious it's all about GREED! and if those people were to lose what they have I'll bet they will be the first in line. And that would be a win for the liberals oh God and the conservatives are wrong heaven forbid.

When Bush was in office the National Debt was no problem for the Republicans as long as helping the rich caused the debt. Bush increased the National Debt by $4.9 trillion during his 8 years in office. The rich got rich and the middle-class lost their buying power by $2,200. The fight between the Democrats and Republicans is the top 2% against the bottom 98%. With all the money the rich have they can buy almost any results in the Nov. election.

Has anybody heard if any of those that voted for the health care bill monstrosity are finished reading it yet? I know I haven't, surprisingly since it was supposed to save the collapse of our health care industry and make health care affordable for everyone. I was excited about better medical coverage for everyone while it paid for itself. It just doesn't get any better than that. . . . .. .

Do any of you people opposing the bill ever do any research on your own or do you just regurgitate whatever charge that's asserted by those with whom you agree with politically? That goes pretty much for anything you disagree with. Do you inform yourselves or do you just sheepishly swallow what you're being sold by the likes of Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, or Sarah Palin? If you're too lazy to educate yourselves about that which you protest as opposed to displaying bovine tendencies and following with lemming-like acquiescence, you are not qualified to debate about nor vote on serious issues that affect the rest of us.

Joe Sestak running for Senator in Pa. should also be on that list. As a House Representative, he voted for every liberal bailout, government takeover and wants exactly what Obama wants, to turn America into a socialist country. Republicans are not against healthcare for everyone, they just see this debt as unsustainable and the law as it was passed with bribes and shady deals is flawed. It is still an experiment, and the shortage of doctors is inevitable because a lot of them will quit or retire when they find out that they are working for a lot less than they are used to. Can't blame them at all, medical school is expensive. And, the doctors who are left will be overworked. Capitalism is what made this country great for hundreds of years, and Obama and his liberal cronies are very quickly doing their best to destroy it.

The Dept of energy was created because the US was relying on 30 percent of foreign oil. We now rely on over 70 percent. Talk about fat government bureaucracy. We could save the money by getting rid of the DOE and start investing in our own oil. We have it.
