Since Barbour, a former GOP national chairman, may be the least rueful figure in politics, I was not expecting the 62-year-old governor to don sackcloth and sanctimoniously apologize for his prior lucrative career decisions. "I'm a lawyer, a lobbyist and politician – that's the trifecta," he replied with a practiced lack of remorse. But then Barbour unexpectedly added, "You should know that I used to be on the board of directors of Blount International, which owned Federal Cartridge. I didn't get to lobby for the gun industry, but I was on the board of directors of the holding company of one."What you may fail to realize, Mr. Shapiro, is that millions and millions of Americans feel just as negatively, if not more so, about reporters/correspondents as they do about lobbyists. For many, both fail to tell the truth on a regular basis.
September 11 2010 at 1:31 PM Report abuse Permalink +4 rate up rate down ReplyHaving followed politics for years, in most cases you can always say, "it is what it is"......Haley has earned his money the way most lobbyist and politicians do.....fair and honest......deals are deals.....again, it is what it is....I would suggest one look at the entire body of his works in public life. Most all of us in Mississippi have benefited somewhere from his work, especially since being elected Governor.....and we will never forget his post Katrina work........Look past his rotund, robust figure... his southern dialect.....look at his heart and soul......and his ability to get things done.....

They start out with the best of intentions and then DC sinks into them and they mutate. THE prime reason for term limits. End ALL career politicians! It's the only way back...
September 11 2010 at 10:21 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHaley Barbour is all about himself. i would not vote for him if he became a candidate.......racist!!!!!!!!
September 11 2010 at 7:44 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyAbout time, although, please Gov. Barbour is a racist & revisionist. I'm from Mississippi, I know what I hear even my relatives say "they" meaning African-Americans, Blacks, any people of color. The comments are always derogatory & evil. Mr. Shapiro is biased. Glad you got rid of the mean & vulgar. Just, I don't see any comments posted.?
September 10 2010 at 1:41 AM Report abuse Permalink -10 rate up rate down ReplyHe sure gives Mississippi a bad name! No Boss Hogg. $145 Million federal money to the state of Miss. and Barbour is "saving" it until after the election. We don't want it to appear Obama has done anything good!
September 09 2010 at 4:30 PM Report abuse Permalink -4 rate up rate down ReplyHaley Barbour is a throw-back Southern good-old-boy's boy who takes care of those who take care of him and his Republican Party. Ethics? Nah. Winning is what matters and loyalty is key. Reserve the smoked-filled back rooms, an old-school player is feelin the game ya'll.
September 09 2010 at 3:48 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyAh yes, Haley Barbour, sure brings back memories to hear more of him. Remember when he was happily sitting on a Chinese billionaire's yacht in Hong Kong harbor while the Republican party was accusing Bill Clinton of accepting Chinese donations during his first campaign for president. Bet you ten bucks he wasn't there for tea and rice.
