Rand Paul TV Ad: 'I'm a Physician, Not a Career Politician'

Kentucky U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul is out with the first ad of his general election campaign.

Perhaps seeking to portray a kinder, gentler Rand Paul, the ad, titled "Gift of Sight," includes shots of Paul, who has practiced medicine and performed eye surgery for 17 years, wearing scrubs. It also focuses on Paul's experience as a doctor who "puts patients first," and stresses this is why he opposes Obama's health care reform.

The ad begins with the words,"I'm Rand Paul. I'm a physician, not a career politician."

New polls show Paul widening his lead over Democrat Jack Conway.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.

All hail the great State of Kentucky for seeing beyond the liberal controlled mass media and journolist gang of elitists trying to transform this Country based on a faulty ideology and low self worth (and the corresponding need for the communal hug.)

I see so much of Liberals v. Conservatives. The US Constitution neither set up Capitalism nor socialism. However, say to much to the right or too much to the left and the nation suffers. We have been down this road once before and it is so eerily similar. We need balance or we dive head first into an abyss. We need capitalism to create work and industry, but we need socialism to temper the evils of pure capitalism. We need banking to handle the ability for our economy to grow, yet we need to keep a firm hand and regulate those banks so they don't kamikaze the citizens as they are doing now to the mortgage industry. We need to get rid of free trade which has harmed every country it has touched stopping the protectionism every country had. In ours, it has moved jobs oversees and increased immigration at the same time. In others, it has made them desolate. Above all, we need representatives who will make these tough decisions in order to put us back in a economic movement again. If its not Rand Paul you feel that can do this, then Vote for someone who will. But it is no longer an issue of Liberal v. Conservative. It is an issue of what is right for America.

Wow..."communist liberal." I haven't seen that ignorant phrase used since the regrettable days of the John Birch Society. Once again, emotion trumps intellect and the days of McCarthyism and paranoia rear their ugly heads. Although it may be too much to ask, the only way to form an educated opinion about anyone asking for our vote is to do some research. If you're unsure of how to begin doing that, watch Rachel Maddow's news show for five minutes and you'll see how she uses documented evidence, pure and simple, as chapter and verse in providing the background checks we need to know where these vote-askers have come from, who's backing them, and how they formed their belief systems. If you can't be bothered, then continue listening in proud and blissful ignorance to the Glenn Becks and Rush Limbaughs whose cherry-picked "facts" cited entirely out of context or fabricated out of whole cloth are easily disproven by anyone interested in an objective and clear-headed search for the truth.

DeForest Kelly is rolling over in his grave. What's Paul got for his next ad? Maybe he can make a reference to the economy and yell: "It's dead, Jim!"

First of all Rand Paul claimed to be a board certified ophthalmologist and then was proven not to be. He is not certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology at all. He didn't like their rules so he started his own board with his wife and in-laws as the board members. Now I have to think that this guy if elected any rules including the U.S. Constitution has no meaning to him at all. This man is a wacko and should not be elected to any office that decides rules of government to the rest of us. No to Mr. Paul and the fools that follow him. If this is the best the Republican Party has to offer this country is indeed in deep trouble!!!

He's a professional liar. The new health care bill does nothing of the sort. It ends pre-existing conditions. It isn't much, but it's better than what we had.

As far as paying taxes goes Police and Fire are paid through property taxes and highways are paid for through taxes on fuel. The income taxes we pay is to pay for the armed services to protect the citizens of this nation and that includes our borders.........

All states receive federal funds to keep police and firemen out there. If they tried to do it on what they bring in through property taxes, they couldn't.

I think some govt. control is necessary to prevent{or at least try} to stem abuses. I don't feel good about the bank bailouts....but ..where would there have been enough liquidity {money} in the banks to back up the deposits. If there was a run on the banks would you have been able to get yours? I just wish there was a candidate that really represented the backbone of this country, the shrinking middle class...I think Rand Paul and his Father Ron have alot of it right...but it needs some tempering...Also I wish the media would stop claiming he's a Tea Party candidate.. The Tea party has it mostly wrong I believe the Wall St.wolves would love a Tea Party president........no controls ..time to rape and pillage and destroy your 401k's and pension plans.......
