Those results are in line with other surveys on Mormonism, John Green, an expert on religion and politics at the University of Akron, told RNS. "Because other surveys show that Mormons are not especially popular with Americans, as a rule, then it's likely that if more people found out Glenn Beck's religious background, that would inhibit them following him," Green said. In our opinion, the best religous leader will have respect for the life of unborn babies, and protect them from abortion. He or she should have a strong love of Jesus Christ and His teachings. Be respectful to other faiths . To have a mature respect for our country and its traditions. Freedom of speech is important; but building a Muslim mosque at " 9/11 Ground Zero is disrespectable to our brothers and sisters who died because of that gowardly attack. God bless America. Beck is no different than that guy at work you go to lunch with, your kid's teacher, the policeman, the cab driver, the cashier who rang up your groceries, your neighbor, your local congressman . .. Mormons are everywhere. Beck is an easy to love and relate to, radio entertainer who stirs up poignant conversation who happens to be Mormon. - Thats it. If that faith grounds them morally and validates their integrity, then great. Hopefully all faith for everyone does that. If he offeres advice. . and its good. Is it any less valid because he's Mormon? Of course not.
September 17 2010 at 1:49 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyTo understand the Glen Beck phenomenom you need to rent and watch a famous Frank Capra movie from around 1940 called "Meet John Doe". It is an erie parallel to this Beck character. Great movie. About a populist political movement during the depression called the John Doe society. It was all about bluster, bombast and nothingness. There never was an actual John Doe until the leaders of the new party conspired to create one. They found a hobo (Gary Cooper as I recall in the movie). They cleaned him up, gave him a shave and made him the supposed real John Doe. As the movie progressed Gary Cooper became John Doe and became larger than life. Great ending. Glen Beck's parallel to John Doe is startling. A hobo from nothingness, who talks a lot but says nothing becomes the face for a national movement of some sort. Glen Back is John Doe. Please rent the movie and see what I'm talking about.

That said, his show is very boring these days and while I agree with some of his message, the format of his show puts me to sleep.

Glenn Beck is a great entertainer, and he is always looking for a few good rubes to show up, pay good money, and be entertained. The problem is too many people take this entertainment seriously...hence, we are at the point of some people thinking the President is behind global warming, oil well explosions, killing baby birds and kidnapping Santa Claus.

Americans that believe in Beck believe in his political stance not his religious stance. I think it's clear that you are attempting to minimalize Beck for political gains. Tell me when you get a job that you're qualified to do. Good luck with that pal.
September 17 2010 at 8:48 AM Report abuse Permalink +2 rate up rate down ReplyDon, Beck's rally was as he said, "not political". He was portraying himself as a preacher on that day. He has claimed God talks to him. Did you see any of the rally?
