On his radio show Monday
, Glenn Beck laughed-off the revelation that Delaware Senate nominee Christine O'Donnell "dabbled into witchcraft
" in her youth.
With the music from the classic TV show "Bewitched" playing in the background, Beck said:
"And now, Christine O'Donnell is 'Bewitched.' With Robert Gibbs as Doctor Bombay. Lindsey Graham -- a man who's living a lie, pretending he's something he's not -- as Darren Stevens. And Agnes Morehead as Nancy Pelosi."
Agnes Moorehead played the witch Endora on the show. Dr. Bombay was a warlock.
It was originally unclear what Beck was referencing regarding Sen. Graham's "pretending he's something he's not." Beck later clarified that Graham was pretending to be something he's not ... a Republican.
In the past, Graham has been questioned about his sexuality
, so this may have been a veiled reference to that. Dick Sargent
, the second actor to play Darren on "Bewitched," was gay. Additionally, Beck's sidekick joked that Graham could also be a good "Uncle Arthur." Uncle Arthur was portrayed on the show by Paul Lynde
, who is thought to have been gay...
Beck joked that the song should become O'Donnell's new campaign theme.
One other observation: Glenn Beck's radio show is dramatically better than his TV show. He is extremely funny and irreverent.
For this reason, I predict that if Beck ever crosses the line in a serious way, it will come from something he says on his radio show, not on TV.
