Will Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden Switch Places in 2012?

The Washington rumor mill went into overdrive this week when journalist Bob Woodward suggested that a plan may be in the works to have Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton switch places for the 2012 presidential ticket. Such a move could make Hillary Clinton the country's first female vice president and finally release Joe Biden from his prison of relative silence in the vice president's residence.

The White House dismissed Woodward's switcheroo trial balloon as "complete fiction," but it was too late to stop the chattering class from talking about the drama that could ensue in an Obama-Clinton White House.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. If the choice is Biden or Clinton in 2012 I choose... neither. Time for change, again.

I ust'a fear Hillary more than death itself, but Obama makes her look like a girl scout. The only way the Democrats can win in 2012 is if the Republican's go back to their John McCain/Lindsay Graham ways. America as we knew it is over if they do.

They can both switch places with two unemployed persons in 2012. Get rid of the deadwood while cleaning out the White House. Send them home. Retire them both. They can go pound nails with Jimmy "One-Term" Carter, the worst president until 2008.

I can't imagine Joe Biden being the diplomatic representative of the U.S. He seems a bit slow and makes too many gaffs. It would be an embarrassment. But then, I feel this whole administration, as far as diplomacy goes, has been abysmal!

Hillary should show Obama who wears the pants in the administration and run against him....at least Hillary has already been down the" health care bill in flames" road, at least she may have learned from that experience.

Dems get swept over in November and Obama's decline continues. Hillary leaves her Sec of State position and runs against Obama for the 2012 Democratic nomination.

All this 2012 speculation for who would be running as VP does not make much sense if the DNC wants to keep control of the white house and gain back seats in the house. Their was a local news conference here in pa. about 6 weeks ago that a slip of the tongue did not make sense but now it could become possible. The DNC already knows they will lose control of the house this November and they are trying to hold on to a 50/50 split of the senate. This would force the Republicans and Democrats to reach common ground and work together creating meaningful legislation. This could work in Obama's favor in poll ratings if the economy turns around before the 2012 elections. As to what was said in this news conference was this. If the Democrats lose big in 2010 and Obama's poll ratings do not climb above 50% and the troops in Afganistan have not started to come home by the July 2011 date set by Obama then their will be other Democrats running for president in the 2012 primary. One of the names that came up to run was Pa. Governor Ed Rendell and I would not be supprised if Hillary would run at this point instead of waiting until 2016.On the other hand if Obama's poll numbers increase it would be a repeat of the Bill Clinton presidency. If his poll numbers remain low and the troops have not started to come home by July 2011 and Obama runs unopposed on the Democratic ticket then the DNC risks losing the white house and even more house and senate seats.
