Former President Bill Clinton just kept talking, but West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin could see something was wrong and sprang from his chair behind Clinton at a campaign event in Morgantown, W. Va. on Monday. Then Clinton noticed: a woman near the front of the crowd had fainted, apparently from the heat.
Clinton, in his shirtsleeves, called for a doctor and one in the audience quickly responded. "Give her some water, it's hot out here," Clinton said. "She'll be fine." The ex-president tried to continue his speech on behalf of Manchin's Senate campaign, but he couldn't resist a little joke.
"Believe me, rarely at my age does a lady faint on me," he quipped. Clinton is 64. He was headed for Nevada on Tuesday to campaign for another Democratic Senate candidate, Majority Leader Harry Reid.
