Obama Related to Palin, Limbaugh? Maybe, but They're Not Kissin' Cousins

Many anthropologists argue that we are all related -- it's called the "Eve Theory." But this is almost too much. A genealogist, going back several centuries, says President Obama is distantly related to Sarah Palin on his mother's side, and is a 10th cousin once removed of one of his arch-critics, fiery conservative broadcaster Rush Limbaugh.

Utah-based said it examined Obama's family tree and found he has a common matriarchal ancestor to Palin named John Smith, a 17th-century pastor in Massachusetts who opposed the persecution of Quakers, the Associated Press reported Wednesday. "He was a very socially conscious man," said genealogist Anastasia Tyler.

President ObamaLimbaugh, who declared last year that he hoped Obama's presidency would fail, is said to be related through a man named Richmond Terrell, a landowner in 17th-century Virginia.

Obama's late mother, Stanley Ann Dunham, was from Wichita, Kan., and of English, Irish and German descent.

Genealogists find ancestors by tracing family trees back as far as possible. Connecting well known people through distant cousins is a time-honored exercise.

Palin, for instance, is said to be distantly related to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a man she is trying to defeat in Nevada by backing his Republican rival, Sharron Angle. Obama is believed to have a great-great-great-grandfather in County Offaly, Ireland. And Lynne Cheney, wife of former Vice President Dick Cheney, believes Cheney and Obama are eighth cousins (The Chicago Sun-times says they're ninth cousins, once removed). And finally, former President George W. Bush is related -- going way back -- to both Obama and Palin, according to

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.

of course we are all related. We are all descendants of Adam and Eve! Even if it were true, I would not wanted to be related to either Palin or Limbaugh. Poor President Obama! My heart bleeds for him!

Amazing!!! This is truly funny. By the way Limbaugh wanted President Obama's policies to fail. However It could have been put differently by Rush. Personally I may not agree with many of the policies in place right now, I think more civility is in order. The Bible says "Harsh Words Stir Up Anger", and "A Soft Answer Turns Away Wrath". A-L-L of our POLITICIANS and POLITICAL COMMENTATORS would be WISE to follow that God Inspired WISDOM. And everyone else including ME, MYSELF, AND I.

That explains it all FAMILY FEUDs , get real folks the BIRTH CERTIFICATE ISSUE WAS BAD ENOUGH , Obama is who he is OUR PRESIDENT respect him for that , not a very good one perhaps but HE IS WHAT HE IS "NUMERO UNO of the USA" leave it at that . If you don't agree with his POLICY's speak up let your voice be heard , vote him out of office 2012 but don't dig up more DIRT it only hurts the USA . P/S He is not my favorite but for time being he is still "MR PRESIDENT" to me , end of story until it changes .

Man, Obama is related to just about everyone, let the media tell it, remember during the presidential election, the media claim Obama was related to Dick Cheney. Prove it, everyone can claim to be related to someone without actually showing proof. As they say the proof is in the pudding!

Like Elvis Presley said, "we're all cousins, that's what I believe, cause we're all children of adam and eve"

It's a wise man who knows his own father!! Some experts say that about 10% of births are illegimate. Promisquity and pride can cover up tracing a father. We have a popular show or two on TV, using the new DNA analysis techniques, to find the real father of a pregnant woman. In most cases neither the man or woman can be sure who the father is. Should make most people wonder about the accuracy of their geneology.

These people are really trying to reach as far as they can to get us to forget what the real issues are that face us in this country. Proving that people are related far back in time has no impact what so ever with our problems that the taxing and spending and national debt will cause the "relatives" of all these people in the future!!!

Limbaugh was misquoted as usual. Limbaugh was speaking of Obamas economics and the way he did things rushing and signing bills through without reading them! Back room deals in the middle of the night. This is what Limbaugh wanted to fail. This is what Limbaugh was talking about . He knew if What Obama wanted to do, did not fail we would have the problems we are having because of Obamas choices. Lambaugh was right!
