'I'm Perturbed as Heck, and I'm Not Going to Take It Much Longer'

Overheard on the National Mall this afternoon: "Excuse me," "I'm sorry,'' "Oops!" and "Let's go get in line.'' Seriously, I've seen more rude behavior at Midnight Mass.
Though I could not really see Jon Stewart from where I was standing and missed the whole musical portion of the program due to a Metro delay -- and even on the train, people were smiling -- I'm beyond pleased to have made it to the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear, where Tony Bennett sang, "God Bless America" and I saw zero mean signs.

There were liberals in attendance: "Think outside the FOX,'' one sign read. Conservatives were in evidence, too: "Vote liberals out,'' another said.

But never have I seen a more aggressively polite bunch, determined to make the point that we really are more courteous and reasonable than you might think from watching cable.

Just a few signs of raging moderation:

* I'm Perturbed as Heck, and I'm Not Going to Take It Much Longer

* It's My Birthday, and All I Want Is Bipartisanship and a Pony

* I Support Cogent Syllogism

* I Was Told There Would Be Cake

* Where's the Nearest Whole Foods?

* We (Heart) Facts

*God Hates Fog

* "Fear Is the Path to the Dark Side" – Yoda

* I Don't Agree with You but I'm Pretty Sure You're Not Hitler

* If China's Economy Surpasses Ours, Life Will Go On

And my absolute favorite:

* I'm a Democrat Married to a Republican and We're in Love

(Thank you, Jon Stewart, for bringing out many thousands of my people on one sunny afternoon. America, I always knew you had it in you.)

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.

I really enjoy these women on this program. I am sick and tired of seeing the same old male anchors on TV spewing out their opinions. I like these women, they are smart, articulate and right on the money with their opinions. They are easy to understand. Keep up the good works and I hope you go on CNN or MSMBC

I have to admit at first I was confused. When I heard the voice of Cat Steven's I felt like running to my cedar chest and donning my hip hugging bell bottoms, buffalo sandals, fringe vest and beads. Then when I heard Ozzy, hold it, let's pull out the black leather pants and jacket. Then when I heard the folk music, hold on, where's Peter, Paul and Mary and Donovon. Well maybe Janis and Jimmy should be here too. But then that lady in the Alice in Wonderland garb showed up but where was Grace Slick to sing White Rabbit! Though it was confusing at times, and at one point I statred flicking channels, it had its laughable points and it felt to good to laugh. I must say though that I did agree totally with thier re-inactment of how the MEDIA twists and propells situations into fear and hysteria and if there ever existed a clearer message, it was don't believe everything you hear, see and read on the news.

(Thank you, Jon Stewart, for bringing out many thousands of my people on one sunny afternoon. America, I always knew you had it in you.) What do you mean by "my people"? Is this a divided America?

I am please to read about your new approach to comments. People can say what they feel and still be resepctful. The sanity rally was a positive pull back to civility that we need in this country. I will be happy when the elections are over and the negative attacks are done. I would have preferred to hear in the ads what the candidate was going to do themselves, so that I could then make an educated vote. Whomever wins the elections, make sure as citizens you contact them frequently and hold them accountable for bringing the country forward. I wish President Obama and the full congress whomever they will be, much success in making positve change. I have seen what the President has been trying to do and change takes time. Remember, write, call and talk to your elected officials and find out what they are doing and tell them what we need. And please don't forget, it doesn't matter if you voted for or like the President, He is still the President of the United States, have respect for the man. Thanks again for your positive approach. From An American Citizen, not a political party person.

ddv106, you're going to have to tone it down a bit, if people keep espousing such logic and common sense, the sun might fall out of the sky. I don't think we can take much more of this civility!
