Gov. Bobby Jindal (R-La.) joined us on today's podcast to discuss his new book, "Leadership and Crisis."

Jindal and I talked about his notion that conservatives should view public service as a noble calling. Jindal was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford, and later presided over Louisiana's health care system at the age of 24, and I wanted to get his take on why this career path is more common for liberals than for conservatives.

During our interview, Jindal also talked about his journey from Hinduism to Christianity, and about his belief that America's culture is "the foundation for our greatness."

We also discussed how, during the Hurricane Katrina disaster, Jindal asked President Bush to appoint Colin Powell or Jack Welch to lead the relief effort.

The book is also personal, and often humorous. For example, Jindal shared with us the story of how he delivered his third child himself on the bathroom floor.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.

Mr. Jindal's "moment of truth" was his unfortunate reply to the State of the Union Address. The setting and his unintentionally humorous speech was disastrous for him. He needs to find a more well-planned and TV-savvy setting in order to restore any chance he may have at national prominence. He's no light weight...but he has allowed himself to be the punch line of too many jokes.
