Donald Trump Says Presidential Run 'Could Be Fun'

Here we go again. Donald Trump, the billionaire New York real estate magnate and star of his own television reality show, says he is considering running for president as a Republican in 2012.

Trump told ABC's "Good Morning America" he would make a decision about a possible race by June. In answer to a question from George Stephanopoulos about a White House candidacy, he said, "I am thinking about things. . . . It could be fun because I'd like to see some positive things happen for the country." Trump expressed interest in running in 1988 and again before the 2000 election, but each time backed off as the filing deadlines approached.

On Thursday, he said the United States has lost respect around the world because other countries "beat us up" economically. He singled out China for special scorn, saying it was "getting away with murder" by manipulating currency to increase its advantage in international trade. As president, he said he would "tax China'' -- presumably meaning he would impose tariffs on Chinese imports.

Trump said he understood that, if he ran, he might have to go up against 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. And he said he does not "underestimate" her. "I like her," he said, "but I'd take her on."

Another wealthy Manhattanite, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, denied for the umpteenth time Wednesday that he is interested in national office. "Well, it's very flattering," he told the Washington Post when asked again about his ambitions. "And if you didn't think it was flattering you should probably see a psychiatrist." Trump called Bloomberg a friend, but said the mayor is on the "liberal side" politically.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. I think Trump would win by a landslide if he ran for President! He has more business experience than anybody that would run, and more common sense. The past President Bush received very bad advise and took it, and Obama is doing the same. I don't think Trump would take bad advise, and wouldn't fall into that "Good Old Boy" trap that Washington is setup with only to further their careers in Politics. Politicians that start out good always end up giving in to the Career Politicians in Washington and learn very fast it's only important to get reelected and the hell with the Public good. Go Trump!!!

Trump goes bankrupt all the time now. Cheating his subcontractors. Hes a crook who uses the system to play but not pay. I know he tried cheating a contractor in Florida for working on his splendid resort, but the guy went to court and won. He began hauling Trumps furniture and **** out,, someone showed with a check in 20 minutes. Only took the guy 18 months and court case to colect off the dead beat Trump. The real trump is not the smiley ass you see on TV,,, hes much much worse. Hes just the normal wall street crook. He lost his yacht,, the gambling places we thought he owned,,, and his esteem, hes not real.

I would like to see Trent Lott of Mississippi run for president on the GOP ticket and win the primary and pick either Donald Trump or Sarah Palin as his running partner .... Who else is with me on this idea

Hiya Roo!

I wish he would run as a 3rd party. He has enough of a following to get the publicity that a normal 3rd party memeber would need.

Lord knows that Trump would not and could not, if he tried, be any worse than the last two we had in the WH. Maybe his financial savy could change things economically.

I think Trump and Palin should do a reality TV series as canidates running together for president. Thene he could fire her and she could fire him.
