House Speaker-to-be John Boehner already has his share of attacks coming from the White House and Democrats on Capitol Hill, but he may want watch out for incoming fire from the ladies of ABC's "The View."

During a "Hot Topics" segment on daytime talk show Monday, the discussion turned to Boehner's appearance on Sunday's "60 Minutes," in which the congressman from Ohio repeatedly held back tears as he talked about growing up with 11 brothers and sisters; about his refusal to visit schools because of the emotion he feels for the future of kids in America; and about the pride his wife has in seeing him become the next speaker of the House.

"Everybody who knows me knows I get emotional about certain things," Boehner explained to CBS's Lesley Stahl when she asked why he is so frequently gets teary-eyed, including on election night.

But the ladies of "The View" were not sympathetic to Boehner's propensity for weepiness.

"This guy has an emotional problem, that every time he talks about anything that is not 'Raise taxes,' he cries," said Barbara Walters. "If you had seen Nancy Pelosi all these past years crying, what would you say?" she asked co-host Sherri Shepherd.

"She's weak," Shepherd responded.

"Well, good luck to him. I hope he's a good speaker of the House, but he's got a problem," Walters concluded.

Another co-host, Joy Behar, who makes no secret of her liberal leanings, called Boehner the "Weeper of the House" and said she only sees him cry about his own difficult circumstances.

"He cries only when he talks about how sad his life was," she said. "He had to sweep floors, he was a janitor, and yet he has very little empathy for people who are in that position now."

But Elizabeth Hasselbeck, the most conservative of the women in the group, defended Boehner as someone who genuinely wants to create jobs and see Americans succeed. "You can't crucify a man for getting emotional," she said. "He's actually probably a fine man who cares. You can't just brush off him like that and say he's a bad guy because he cries."

Whoopi Goldberg did not get into the scrum Monday, but did toss to a commercial break at the end of the segment as she pretended to weep.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.

I am very emotional as well. Some people just are. That doesn't mean that they can't be effective. There are a lot of extremely intelligent people with strong leadership qualities that are just simply emotional. One thing is for sure, you'll never have to doubt their compassion or sincerity.

I'm definitly disappointed in her. I thought she was the one with more feelings than that. She didn't make fun of Oprah when she made her cry!

Every time he says American Dream he gets emotional. I think he wishes that dream for everyone. You don't get it from the government. You have to work hard and have good luck along the way.

Let me tell you the real reason John Bohner does not visit schools and why in the past he cries for the children. Because deep in his heart he knows he does NOT represent them or their families..in fact he goes to DC and votes for bills that will suck money from their families and add more debt onto them and their families for the uber wealthy. When he looks at them he cries because deep in his heart he knows he is wrong and can not look at them. He knows they do not stand a chance how hard they work and study....and he is the biggest reason...

John Boehner is a fine man who cares about the principles our country was founded on and wants to make sure that everyone will continue to have the freedom to pursue their goals and dreams. Tears have nothing to do with his intellect - his heart is in the right place. Our country is currently heading in the wrong direction and we need the leadership of John Boehner to turn it around. As Speaker of the House he will take the lead in these efforts and give us hope for a better future than we have right now. GOD BLESS JOHN BOEHNER!!

What a fraud. Did he weep when his party wanted to increase the deficie by billins of dollars so that the multi millionnares and billionares could get more money in their pockets. yet leave unemployed people defenseless? No he did not weep for the millions of people that are still unemployed after more than 99 weeks of not finding a job. I truly beleive if left up to the left wingers middle class people will be eliminated entirely from society and there would just be really poor OR sujpe rich people in this country. It's shameful the rich are not satisfied with what they have.

Well Barbara, I don't know about you but as I get older, (63) I find that I get tearieyed (sp?) more easily than I use to. My mom is the same way so I suppose that is where I get it from. So I don't think it is a bad thing if Boehner does weep once in awhile.

Are Republicans so emotionally delicate ? Glen Beck is constantly crying on his show. Probably just crocodile tears because these guys are "in it" for lining thier wallets. They are snickering and smiling on the inside.

Reporters who followed Boehner during the campaign, said they never saw him be emotional. Even his wife said when asked by Leslie Stahl "does he do this ofter?", said no. His emotions are manufactured for the largest media exposures. What a sad little man.

Show me what brings a man to tears, and I'll tell you alot about his character. John is a man who loves America, knows that only in this great country, can you fulfill you dreams if you work honestly and hard enough. Good work John Boehner, we are lucky to have you.
