The Corrections Department "believes the sisters no longer pose a threat to society," Barbour said in a statement. "Their incarceration is no longer necessary for public safety or rehabilitation, and Jamie Scott's medical condition creates a substantial cost to the state of Mississippi."Theses women should have never been in prison this long. Looks like they had no one fighting for them. How many more people have had this injustice?

I never found any rhyme nor reason to what judges and juries impose as penalties for similar crimes. But the justice, or injustices, works that way with all races. In many instances (most?), it depends on how much money you have to spend on a lawyer or law team, or how connected you and your family might be.

December 31 2010 at 5:09 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyOh, so threatning to kill someone for $11.00 is not as bad as threatning to kill for $100.00 or a million? Duh, it's not the amount taken, it's the act of Armed Robbery.
And yes some whites and blacks and hispanics get less time for a simular crime and they repeat their crimes in most cases with more extreme results.
I do not condone what these women did...but life sentences? I know of a white male who committed armed robbery...got more money than $11 and was out of prsion in about 4yrs. Unless these women had prior records this was definitely a harsh sentence.
