Republicans Sarah Palin, Scott Brown and freshman Sen. Marco Rubio get high marks from Facebook users for their social media skills in terms of staying in touch with supporters and constituents in 2010.

Facebook, the wildly popular social networking site, asked its members this week to rank politicians and government agencies for their facility in using its pages. Palin, the former governor of Alaska, Sen. Brown (R-Mass.), Rubio (R-Fla.) and Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) were rated highly for their regular but unobtrusive use of Facebook, the Washington Post said. More than 2.5 million have "liked" Palin's page. "Gonna have to go with Sarah, you betcha!" one user said. Another said Brown's team showed expertise in using the site "without appearing cheesy or boring."

Sarah Palin Facebook pageRepublicans outnumbered Democrats in favorable mentions in the informal survey. But Californians Jerry Brown, the next governor, Attorney General-elect Kamala Harris and Rep. John Garamendi (D-Calif.) got props for their use of Facebook. So did Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio).

President Obama, the Armed Forces -- especially the Navy -- the Veterans Affairs Department, the U.S. EPA and Disability.gov were also applauded for their Facebook pages.

Facebook said it looked forward to innovative use of the social network by lawmakers and agencies in 2011 as they seek to stay in touch with citizens and provide services to them.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.

What I would like to see is EVERY bill brought before Congress is put on the net, in clear and concise language, prior to translating it into legalese. The American people have a right to know what is being proposed before a vote, and most of us cannot hire a lawyer to interpret.

Speaker John Boehner has promised he is going to do this. He said they would post for 3 days, enough time for any and all Americans to read. I rely on the Heritage Foundation as well.

Might have a great deal to do with age. The Dem politicians (at least, those in the US Congress)have an average age of 70 years, while the Republicans are 20 years younger. If I was one of the older guys, I would have my child, or grandchild, build a facebook page for me, and have them make my handwritten entries on a daily basis. It isn't the technology that is difficult at 70, it is the typing.......fingers aren't as nimble, and many of the men never did learn to type. It wasn't something they learned as a youngster.

HI J E A N N E

I'm personally starting to think that "Facebook" is Big Brother...and I'm surprised more people aren't thinking along the same lines. People don't need a Facebook page to communicate and it seems a lot of sheep are just going along without question.
