John Edwards Has Proposed to Rielle Hunter, National Enquirer Says

John Edwards has proposed to his mistress Rielle Hunter, The National Enquirer reported Thursday.

A source told the tabloid that the disgraced former senator asked Hunter to marry him shortly after issuing a statement last year admitting that he was the father of her daughter, Frances Quinn.

However, the Daily Beast reported Friday that an Edwards spokeswoman has denied the Enquirer report.

Edwards, a one-time presidential candidate, "is buying a luxury $3.5 million beachfront home where they can live happily ever after with their love child," the Enquirer said.

The couple will wed this summer, according to the tabloid.

It was the Enquirer that first broke the story of the affair between Edwards and Hunter, who worked on his presidential campaign. The Huffington Post pointed out that while the Enquirer accurately reported the romance, the publication posted a nearly identical story last year about a planned Edwards-Hunter wedding -- which was later denied.

Edwards' wife, Elizabeth Edwards, died of breast cancer on Dec. 7. Earlier Thursday, it was reported that Elizabeth Edwards left everything she owned to her three children, leaving her estranged husband out of the will completely.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. This is just another high profile example of the power of sexual addiction. Sexual addiction has been called the "Marine Corps" of all addictions. Sadly, sexual addiction is America's best kept secret.

gesualdo, who told you he didn't stand by Elizabeth when she was sick. You didn't read the same book I did. Elizabeth said John was a wonderful father, and he did try to make things work after she learned about the affair, but she just couldn't forgive him. He was even with her when she died. Get your facts straight.

You do not usually include a divorced spouse in your will, idiot. Of course she left what she had to her kids.
I wish he would write a book and tell what it was to live with Elizabeth, because she was not very nice, as is evident in her book. The fact that she wrote the damn thing that only caused embarrassment for her children proves that. I wish Edwards and Hunter all the happiness in the world. It must be horrible to have to live with someone you can't love anymore because they have cancer.

Good thing we didnt make him Vice President. His wife had cancer and he cheated. I mean, sheesh, we dont know that she didnt know about it, and because of her illness, condoned it However, she isnt even dead a few weeks, and he's back with the object of the drama? Not smart. IComon now, have some decency, wait a year, a month. Its a disgrace to his wife, and his kids mother to do this

I have been cheated on several times - by the same ex-husband - but finally cut him out like a cancer. Looks as if Elizabeth Edwards did too - even though the other cancer took her life! I admire and respect her as a good wife and supporter of her husband, the liar and cheat. I also admire and respect her making her will in favor of her children. The pain and grief may have hastened her death. Regardless, she went out with a flawless reputation and a clear conscience. We should all have such integrity.

Yeah.. The National Enquirer is the best source to get your information from. Come on man.. Is that all you do is read newspapers and put what they say on here? What a correspodent. Oh did you hear Bigfoot will marry Elvis? I read it in National Enquirer.. apparently all the bridesmaids will be aliens and the groomsmen will be wolf boys.. one was raised by monkeys.
