How's That '2nd Amendment Remedies' Thing Working Out for Ya?

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.

I'm about as liberal as anyone can be, and I own guns and am glad that I do. Not as protection against the Federal government (that's silly) but as protection against the thugs and morons that are out there. I'd never shoot a person (or even an animal) that wasn't a threat to me or people close to me, but I'm glad to have the right to have that choice, if it's ever needed.

I am sorry but it is really scary, for me to sit here and look at the cartoon, and read the defense of gun ownership that is going on in the opinions. The scary part is that the ones who own the guns, can't comphrehend that the caption is about 2nd admendment remedies and they are standing there before two members of the party that is calling them to arms. If they can not comprehend that sitting at their computer , relaxed, how will they act in the world, when things are hectic????? I heard one of the guys, the one with the gun, say on the news the first day, that he was going to shoot the one holding the gun, when he first saw it, b ut went to help instead, it was during that time that he realized the one holding the gun was not the one who shot, but the one who took the gun from the one doing the shooting. I served 18 yrs, six as MP and 12 reserves as infantry, Light and mechanized , Fired many a gun, even was in charge of a bradley, never owned a gun, guess I am not parionoid, or just live in a state that you don't have everyone packing. I know crimials will aways get a gun somehow, but why give them clips that hold more rounds than an M-16 banana clip??????????/Just think if he had been in the military, and knew to tape two clips together, so he could of got the other clip in faster, how many more would he of taken down????

We are given the RIGHT to bear arms. If that RIGHT is taken from us (law abiding citizens) criminals will be the only ones to have them and will not have to worry about retaliation.

The Supreme Court of the United States decided many years ago that the police have absolutely no responsibility for protecting an individual person. The main reason being THEY CAN'T GET THERE IN TIME!
One of the men who took down the shooter was carrying, and he did not start radomly firing his pistol, but he did have it ready and he helped tackle the shooter.

Based on the Brady (D) from PA - this cartoon could be conceive as a threat and
the cartoonist could be arrested. As for the content of the cartoon I would believe the people would be backing and supporting the 2 congressmen in the picture.

The direction that the recent Supreme Court decisions on the Second Amendment and the GOP's own 'strict Constructionist' rhetoric is pushing us to is that every citizen has the Constitutional granted right to KEEP and BEAR arms. The concealed carry law that enabled the recent AZ shooting spree will be the law of the land if the GOP has their way. (Rep Peter King's unworkable 'Not within 1000 feet of a political event' proposed law notwithstanding.)

We already lose 10 citizens per 100,000 to gun violence each year - 4 homocides and 6 suicides. How much worse does it need to get before we change things?

"The concealed carry law that enabled the recent AZ shooting spree"

What a crock...there was no concealed carry issue here at all. The man was not licensed to carry concealed and did not carry concealed for what I've read. You must be a make it up as you go liberal.

I thought this Comic was pretty funny! I can take a joke without being offended! Can you Libs say the same! What if the comic had a pic of two Donkeys with their Tails up and rear ends facing the American Public with a quotation "we are not done yet. "We need more Taxes for more feed."

Unless you are hunting or a collector of sorts what is really the point of owning a gun? This is not the wild west anymore. You’re not protecting your homestead from Indians or Redcoats. Your neighbor isn’t stealing your cattle and panning for gold in your stream. Clearly, many American’s have trust issues and find the need to protect themselves. How about a self defense class? Yeah, yeah, it’s our second amendment and our right as an American. Some can argue the point of owning a rifle, fine; but a hand gun? How many close quarter battles do you plan on getting in within the next year? It’s all about practicality. How practical is it to own a handgun or an automatic firearm in today’s society? How many applications can you apply your M16A Rifle to? In all seriousness honestly, what’s the point?

Its not really funny, I don't get it. Its a shame that you've decided to use a tragedy like this to push your own personal bias. Not just a shame, its actually disgusting and you should be ashamed of yourself.

Once again, its the conservative so called gun loving crowd that is being demonized for the senseless crime in Arizona. Where is the outrage when it comes to the violence that is seen and heard everyday on our airwaves and movie screens. Or in our inner cities where young people are dying every day and certainly do not get their guns legally.
