There aren't a lot of Hollywood conservatives in politics, but we might be getting one more.

According to The Palm Beach Post, Nick Loeb -- the boyfriend of "Modern Family" actress Sofia Vergara -- might make a bid in 2012 for the U.S. Senate seat held by Democrat Bill Nelson. A Republican, Loeb said he won't emulate Jeff Greene, a billionaire Palm Beach resident who spent more than $23 million of his own money on an unsuccessful run last year.

According to the Post, "Loeb said he hasn't set a timetable for making a decision" and that Vergara's career will be a consideration.

"I'm not ready to overwhelm her with this," Loeb told the newspaper. "I want to make sure I do what's right for both of us."

Loeb, the son of former Ambassador John Loeb Jr., is a conservative. He made a previous run for local office -- unsuccessfully.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
