Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.

I listened to the Tea Party response of Michelle Bachmann after the State of the Union address and was absolutely shocked when Ms. Bachmann rewrote history and said the founding fathers did away with slavery! Wrong - wrong - wrong. Does Minnesota not teach the history of the Civil Way, years 1861 to 1865, which ended slavery in this country? This, along with Sarah Palin and the women from Delaware that kept saying she was not a witch, can only be described as the dumbing-down of the once-proud Republican party. Amazing.....

Bachmann's response only serves to further divide the Republicans. Who asked her to provide a response? Her performance is really a non-event and a non-issue except for how it further splits the republicans. No one (of any party) can really top the pomp of ceremony of the Presidential State of the Union Address. The oposition response is viewed with a big yawn, and Bachmann's little speech is so far removed from the address as to be embarrassing.
