Sarah Palin Won't Be Ignored (but Dana Milbank, Others Ought to Be)

So, columnist Dana Milbank at the Washington Post has vowed not to write a word about Sarah Palin during the month of February.

"I feel powerless to control my obsession, even though it cheapens and demeans me," he wrote recently.

We here at Woman Up won't be joining Milbank. We, too, occasionally tire of writing about the former Alaska governor, one of the growing legion of Republicans toying with the idea of a 2012 presidential bid.

We're not always thrilled with her.

But Palin is brilliant at attracting media attention while also avoiding the media. She proved herself a heavy political hitter in 2010 through her political action committee and her endorsements. She's written two best-selling books, starred in her own TV series, "Sarah Palin's Alaska," and creates her own words. Daughter Bristol, on the media radar for being a single teen parent, rode mom's popularity to the finals of "Dancing With the Stars" last fall. There's even a Sarah Palin comic book.

The 2008 vice presidential nominee is a newsmaker, for heaven's sake. How can we possibly ignore her?

Frankly, there are some men the Woman Up writers would like to ignore this month instead. Here's our list; feel free to add your own suggestions in the comments.

1. John Edwards. Whether he ends up indicted or engaged this month, we don't have anything good to say about the former Democratic presidential contender who cheated on his cancer-stricken wife with a younger woman, had a child with her, then lied about it.

2. Glenn Beck. We'd love to write about Beck confessing that his Nazi/Holocaust accusations are wrong and that he plans to cease and desist. But we doubt it will happen.

3. U.S. Rep. Steven Cohen. We realized the Democrat from Tennessee is Jewish, but that doesn't make it right to accuse your opponents of being like Joseph Goebbels, Hitler's top aide.

4. Keith Olbermann. Frankly, he hit his prime on ESPN's "SportsCenter" in the early 1990s. On MSNBC he was often the left's version of Palin-shrill. A month without hearing about him would be refreshing.

5. Cranky Sen. John McCain. His response to the Arizona shootings that killed six and severely wounded U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and 13 others reminded us of the reasonable John McCain, who has been missing in action since his failed presidential bid two-plus years ago. We'd rather not write about the grouchy version of the Arizona Republican this month (and we bet Jon Stewart would like to retire Puppet Sen. John McCain for a while, too).

6. Dana Milbank. He's the easy one on our list. He isn't all that interesting. Everyone from Fox News to Mediaite is making fun of Milbank for his "No-Palin February."

Here at Woman Up, we'd be fine if Palin makes news this month. Announce a run for president perhaps? We betcha she knows how to reach us.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.

OH Sarah, she seems to know what everyone else is doing wrong. Unfortunatly, Her constant complaining never seems to have even one answer to cure the problems. All mouth and no brains except to get money out of people. Don't they call those kind of people flim/flam or con artists?

Palin is hard to ignore for she constantly says such outrageous, and ludicrous things, and does such funny things : writing notes on her palm, saying sputnik brought about the collapse of the USSR, than the USA lost the space race, N.Korea is our ally, kills a reindeer ( aka a caribou) 2 weeks before Christmas, sees Russia from her porch, puts gun sights on political districts, " reload", ETC.

As Peggy Noonan (a staunch republican) exclaimed, "Palin does not demonstrate "the tools, the equipment, the knowledge or the philosophical grounding one hopes for, and expects, in a holder of high office." Put another way, Sarah Palin does not possess the knowledge, skills or abilities necessary in governing an office such as the Presidency of the United States. She would do well to simply fade away...

Peggy Noonan is a Republican Dinosaur, a member of the political elite who had her day in the sun. As Jimmy Carter, who cares what she thinks? Her relevance is threatened by the political sea change now occurring in the Republican Party.

If you take out Palin's name and insert O'Bama's name in the above statement you will have what the majority of Americans feel today!!

The more I see and especially the more I hear from Sarah Palin the less respect I have for John McCain.

If the press wants to cover Palin, and it's obvious they do, to sell papers and get TV ratings, I have no problem with it. If Palin wants to make millions of dollars, while she is hot, I have no problem with that either. The part I don't understand is that she is getting political coverage. She resigned as Governor for one specific reason to make money, lots of it, just look at what she charges to speak. She should be treated like any other "star", on Entertainment Tonight or any other celebrity show. Politically she should be ignored. She is smart enough to realize that she can make a lot of money, right-now, good for her. Nothing wrong with that. Please get her out of the political discussion immediately, as it's painfully obvious she has NOTHING to offer. Now a party with "Snookie", or someone in the same situation as herself, fine.

Why should we prop up people that don't like us at a cost of billions and trillions of dollars per year. Not to mention precious lives. To buy pseudo democracy in the "hilbllly" nations that own nothing but hatred and dissent. Seems like financial suicide to me...Why rob Peter to pay the pauper to me.

Sarah Palin should have never received the attention she received from the News’s media. For one thing she failed as a mother by not teaching her child morals
While she was too busy running around trying to make a name for her-self, She was more concerned about making her own money instead off living off her in-laws, She point blank wanted a name for her self, In realty she put her self first before her family .Look at the nut cakes she draw into elections, counting the lady who owed thousands in federal money and back bills .I would like to know as a citizens how them back bills even were paid ,and who paid all .it was the tea party who paid all of Sarah Palin expenses to travel around the country ,Has anyone looked into the tea party new elected officials to see who and were all this money came from and was it spent in a proper way we do have campaign laws on the use of money

Like the majority of Americans, I would never vote for Sarah Palin for President. However, I have high hopes for her becoming the Republican nominee for President in 2012. I plan to register as a Republican, and vote for Palin in my state's primary. Hopefully, Palin will be nominated at the Republican convention. Then I will vote for Barack Obama for President on election day, and party like a rock star when Obama is reelected.

geronimo,
This is what happened in 2009 with the Panthers and Acorn out and about. We may never completely recover from that debacle. And it has become obvious that they will not be held accountable for all the crimes they committed. At least the media couldn't ignore such blatant illegal behavior. Still, nothing happens to Obama's buddies.

I'm tired of reading about Sarah Palin. Sarah makes more statements than she does speeches. I've really gotten to the point that I don't care what she thinks. There's a group that like Sarah, but there many, many people that don't care for her.
