Al Gore to Fox's Bill O'Reilly: Heavy Snow 'Consistent' With Global Warming

Yes, it is snowing a ton this winter: That just proves his point. Former Vice President Al Gore says the record snowfalls across much of the country are "completely consistent" with his argument that the planet is warming.

Gore, an outspoken champion of efforts to combat climate change, offered his comment in response to Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly, who wants to know why southern New York has "turned into a tundra." On his blog, Algore.com, he said he "appreciated" the question from the conservative talk show host.

It's simple, Gore explained: Scientists have warned for the last 20 years or so that global warming could bring more snow. To help make his point he quoted liberally from a column last year by the Chicago Tribune's Clarence Page. "Snow has two ingredients: cold and moisture. Warmer air collects moisture like a sponge until it hits a patch of cold air. When temperatures dip below freezing, a lot of moisture creates a lot of snow."

Get it? Higher temperatures all over the planet can cause "all sorts of havoc," Gore said, continuing from the Page column. It can range from dry spells, to more frigid winters, to increasingly violent storms, flooding, and loss of endangered species.

The scientific community believes "heavy snowfalls are completely consistent with what they have been predicting as a consequence of man-made global warming," Gore told O'Reilly.

Legislation to limit carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases blamed for climate change failed in Congress last year. But Gore's dispute with Fox News is on-going. In December, he accused the network of a "bias" against evidence that the planet is gradually warming to unacceptable levels. He said Fox News has "consistently delivered false and misleading information" about what Gore regards as a crisis.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. There is always moisture in the air. In fact, water vapor or moisture is the single largest cause of global warming, such as it is, not CO2. Look it up. So Al tells us: if it's warmer, it's global warming, and if it's colder and snowy, it's also global warming...?? As the Church Lady would say: Isn't that Convenient...??

This easy to understand. Just place yourself in prizewinner Al Gore's shoes: as a Democrat presidential candidate, you already know that borrowing leads to fiscal security, and spending leads to increased wealth. It is not much of a stretch to believe that falling temperatures mean it is getting warmer is it?
In 1491 the scientific consensus was that the world was flat. All the peers agreed. They were simply wrong.

The Global warmers said we would be getting LESS snowfall. This was right out of Gores own mouth a few years ago. Of the 24 models for global warming only a couple of years ago, our current weather does not fit any of them. Global warming is a hoax and Gore should be in prison for fraud.

Someone said there are four possibilities 1.We do something and we didn't have to we have a cleaner planet.2. We do something and it was needed and it helps.3. We do nothing and we didn't need to everything is ok.4We do nothing and we needed to,we have a disaster.

We all want that. CO2 was a mistake and is dividing environmentalism.

If we do everything that Gore et al want us to, it will affect global temps very minimally, like 0.1 degree per century. Water vapor causes more warming than CO2 because it holds the sun's radiation better than anything else. Are there environmentalist plans to curb water vapor?? I don't think so.

From a statistical standpoint, the recent severe snowstorms don't mean anything with regard to the global warming debate, one way or the other. The real question is if the Earth is warming, is it due to anything Mankind is doing? If it is due to man, this would be the first time man was responsible for the Earth warming. One might guess that a warming Earth is warming for the same reason(s) it has warmed many times in the past. But if man is responsible, what is the mechanism? There has been no increase in the absorbtion of solar energy in the atmosphere. So an enhanced Greenhouse Effect (i.e. increased hydrcarbons in the air), isn't the culprit. The Earth will cool and the Earth will warm regardless of what people do. Why does anyone believe that we are now at Earth's "correct" temperature and that we must somehow do whatever we can to keep the Earth from warming (or cooling)?

Trying to explain anything to O'reilly is a waste of time. His mind is made up. He does not want to hear any facts.

What caused all of the inter glacial warming periods before humankind? There were many such periods and they all happened sans mankind. Most climatologists believe that we are in a warming trend curently. Good luck getting them to agree on the cause. But of course Al Gore knows. Right. He is too influenced by his MANY STOCK holdings in the alternative energy field. You have been duped my friend.

Why does everything have to be the Conservatives vs the Liberals? Turn off the spinmeisters on MSNBC and FOX and do some research on your own.

From the article. "Scientists have warned for the last 20 years or so that global warming could bring more snow".

Some one that is apolitical? Is that an even realistic desire?

Al, if you look at the averages over past decades, you will realize that our climate changes remain fairly consistent, with a few blips here and there. You are a shyster, unworthy of all you have gained by spreading deceptive information.
