Rush Limbaugh Slams Mitch Daniels, CPAC

On his radio show Monday, Rush Limbaugh went after Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, by name, for his desire to declare a "truce" on social issues.

"You had a candidate promoted by the Republican establishment -- who didn't write off conservative voices -- but said, let's...we're going to move beyond that," said Limbaugh.

Limbaugh noted that it's fine to want to grow a movement, but added: "You don't diss the people who are already audiences of those shows...who won election for your party year after year after year after year. And all of this, of course, done to impress the mainstream media."

Limbaugh also had harsh words for the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) -- which took place in Washington, DC, last weekend: "Social conservatives were dissed again at CPAC," said Limbaugh. "I mean, Cheney got heckled, called a war criminal and a draft dodger at CPAC. I'm sorry, that's not the CPAC that I've always thought of or known."

Governor Daniels gave a high-profile dinner speech at CPAC this year. Two years ago, Limbaugh delivered the keynote address at the conference.

The problem with CPAC, said Limbaugh, is "the principles are now up for grabs."

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.

Through the years I have listened to Rush on the radio. I did come to the conclusion that he was not a very objective and non biased person. I have heard him time and time again down Democrats for something and then be silent when Republicans did the same. Heard him rail against the Democrats for putting earmarks in a bill and then praise a Republican for doing the same thing. Do I put a lot in what he says. No. I do consider him a good entertainer, but not one I would put any faith in what he says. Right now he is having his time in the sun, but as always the sun moves on and he will find himself without its warmth or its light.

Cheney a war criminal? This Christian man that thinks torture is wonderful. Guess it's okay since he didn't kill those prisoners. Jesus was tortured and died. He must be better and smarter than the people who killed Jesus.
If those prisoners were not terrorists before they were waterboarded and humiliated, They probably are ,now. Hey, maybe wanted to create terrorists to justify the war. Thoughts to ponder. He is a war criminal!

- Limbaugh has a tiny audience that is getting smaller everyday, like Beck he has lost 40 to 50% of his audience. Limbaugh is not only totally irrelevant but also boring.

This bad economy is the result of bad use of our military and trying to use our financial system to replace our welfare system. These are the corrections we must take to right our ship. We cannot continue to stay afloat by cutting education, propping up the banking industry, and sending our debt into the future. We need people who are flexible in their ideas and ideals to get rid of bad ideas. As for the Tea Party, tea is not as very good ballast, we need some better ideas than just cut taxes and cut spending. We need a plan that will work for now and the future, I believe there is one but I don't believe I have it. If any party third or otherwise comes up with that I'll join it.

"I am really surprised to see so much attention has been paid to what Rush Limbaugh has to say about American politics."
Dear Dr. Naranhkiri, I doubt you've ever heard him speak, listened to his radio program of glanced at his website. Why would anyone take your advice if you don't reveal what you believe? You simply threw out criticism without a logical argument or specific citation. You use words like good an bad without defining your terms. You simply speculate on what you think he believes. He espouses limited government, true fiscal responsibility, personal responsibility, individual achievement. i.e. The core values that made this country great. He opposes collectivism and authoritarian statism. As you disagree with him in general, I can only assume you don't believe in these things - which means you don't really understand the foundation of this country. Did you get your PhD by mail, or was it on-line?

CPAC is becoming as impotent as the United Nations - lots of folks, way too much appeasement and no action worth a pound of salt. Rush is correct. Stick to your core values and stop taking temperatures every few weeks....I'll bet they'll be more followers that way.

Sounds like these guys and gals at CPAC are finally coming around to what a true democracy is all about: maintaining your principles but hearing -- and respecting -- what the other guys and gals have to say. That's a healthy start, despite what extremists in a particular party may think or say about it.

At least some organizations and individuals have principles unlike Mr. Limbaugh. He was all for jail for drug users until he got caught.
