That's fine for a partisan hack -- but it's not how an "adult" behaves. What we saw from the [Obama] administration was a projection [in an economic report], not a promise, and it was a projection that came with heavy disclaimers.
"It should be understood that all of the estimates presented in this memo are subject to significant margins of error," the report states. "There is more fundamental uncertainty that comes with any estimate of the effects of a [recovery] program."
That was it. Believe in America. Believe that it "is an exceptional nation of freedom and opportunity and hope." Rather than provide a single example of a pro-active measure that would help jobless Americans, this onetime corporate executive declared, "I will not apologize for America! I don't apologize for America because I believe in America!" (Those exclamation points are in the text of the speech.) Query: How does not apologizing for America create jobs? The right answer is not to believe in European solutions. The right answer is to believe in America -- to believe in free enterprise, capitalism, limited government, federalism.
Romney lacks Obama's charisma. Obama, on the other hand, has never operated a business at a profit, has never successfully governed a state or, by now evidently, the nation; and is leading us to an unsustainable policy of spending, borrowing, and taxing with little regard to industrial sustainability. Maybe dull is better.

One's sense of responsibility is sharpened by signing the front side of a paycheck.
and whose signature is on the GM check?

He can't simply toss out commands and everyone in Congress will jump up and do what he asks. He needs a deep understanding of how all the pieces of the puzzle fit together, not simply how business works and what it needs to thrive. If businesses could run the country, we would have no oversight whatsoever meaning we'd be lucky if we could breathe the air or drink the water or eat the food, etc. We saw in 2008 what the lack of regulation and the lack of enforcement did to our economy. And now, amazingly, the Republicans want a speedy return to that era. Honestly, how short is our memory?
Romney is simply the wrong choice for so many reasons; not the least of which, is his lack of coherent policies as noted in the article.
Can someone explain to me, why Mitt Romney never served in one of the branches of the US Military? He certainly had opportunities. Okay, forget that question, and let me ask another. Why hasn't any of his five boy's ever served in the US Military? Something is very wrong with this picture, and for someone who is seeking the highest office in the land; and can put my child in harms way is not my ideal for a President of the United States. You can place my child (or children) in harms way, but not yours. Yeah, something is very wrong with that scenario, but you be the judge.
February 15 2011 at 8:14 AM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyWhat a disappointment ! Back in 2008, I was hoping for Romney to win the Republican presidential nomination as I felt his pragmatism, experience and temperment would be most beneficial to America. I was willing to overlook some of his flip-flopping and distortions (which seem to be part of the make-up of almsot everyone running for office) in order to get America healthily back in the saddle. Unfortunately, Romney seems to be increasingly mired in misstating the truth in order to deceive the public that. How can a man responsibly and competently treat problems when he doesn't even "diagnose" them properly ? It's too bad that a potentially effective president just shoot himself in the foot and singlehandedly ruins his chances of being elected.
